I need about 3 of them, for 235, did a search here first. So far none of the truck parts places have them.

Someone posted a link with dipstick measurements for all stovebolts. You could probably buy one that's close and cut it and mark it to fit.

I needed a good laugh. Show me a wrecking yard that has one? You almost can't find those things at a pick n pull for later yeared vehicles, the easy grab stuff is gone.

And whats with the old car manual deal? Like the dealer stocks them? Sure.

I'll admit it's been a while since I've been in a salvage yard, but I find it hard to believe that people are just going around pulling dipsticks out of all the engines!
Now it's my turn to laugh!

I don't need links to ebay, I don't do anything on ebay, since they changed things years ago. All I ever paid with is a money order, I don't think that is possible now.
I'm surprised no one is making them, as well as all the other impossible to find parts.

It is possible to pay with a money order on ebay. You just need to contact the seller, and work out the details. It's, of course, up to you, but I have personally found that having a paypal account is handy and convenient for other things too, besides ebay.

I have a dipstick listed in the freebies section. I think it came off of a 1948 big truck. You can have it if it will help you. Just pay shipping.

Note: the size/year of the truck/engine affect the length of the dip stick and the locations of the markings on the dip stick.

216 and 235 and maybe 261 dip stick dimensions are attached.

From Truckrolet:

And whats with the old car manual deal? Like the dealer stocks them? Sure.

I think (maybe headscratch ) what bouymaker was trying to do in posting the link to the manual, was to provide a resource listing that gives not only the "different" part numbers and applications for the variety of dipsticks (depending on the application/engine involved), but more specifically too help identify the correct dimensions (length) that applied for each of those items. The listing carries over to the next page in the manual (you can see just be clicking "Next Page") and each part is identified by a specific length. Different lengths equate to different level readings, yes/no/maybe so???

In my thinking, using that information would help make sure you get the correct length dipstick (one size does not fit all) for your application.

There have been a bunch of past conversations (Search the Site can direct you to them) about the correct dipstick length issue as it helps you make sure you are keeping the correct level of lube in your engine. Too low and damaged internals can ensue. Too much and you get blown seals and leaks galore. In both cases eeeek

Thanks to bouymaker for providing the useful info. thumbs_up

As others have already noted, a salvage/wrecking yard "may" be a source. You could also post an ad in the Swap Meet "Truck Parts Wanted" forum for what your looking for. Good chance some fellow Bolters could help you out.

Good luck on your search. wave

EDIT: TC beat me to the punch about the dimensions/length info with much a much more detailed list. grin

The manual is called the 1929-57 Chevrolet Parts and Accessories Catalog and the part is located in section 1.516.
It's free. Gets easier to use over time and is rarely accessed by newbies before posting a question on Stovebolt.
Making one look at the link helps orient the viewer's mind to a source of information to improve their future searching skills.
It's kinda like on-line OJT to help others to help others with newbies questions.

Strongly suggest paying the $20 or whatever to get an actual copy of the correct shop manual for your truck and/or engine. The online resource is great….not as convenient as the real thing.

As for the dipstick…need to understand your goals here. Looking for a “correct” dipstick for some sort of high end restoration? Or just need something to get you by?

If it’s the latter, that dipstick chart posted above, a sharp file, and any old dipstick….will have you in business.

Thank you all for the help. I had a 70's 454 with a dip stick that fits, and is too long, I guess all the chev ones will fit, maybe not stock, but will do the job, with the correct markings and length. I have 3, 235's and no one piece dipsticks. The truck came with a coat hanger wire for a dipstick.
Shop manual? I have 55, 57, and 3, 58's and 59 supplement, I've had them for a long time will that work?

Dealer stocking parts? Sorry I didn't know they still had 1950's 235 parts, ignorant me.
