Don't know much about it except that it is complete and rust free and best of all it was only $175.00. Has a 348 V/8 two speed rear end and air brakes, 20" wheels 10 lug, and I think a five speed manual tranny. Everything seems to work except for the brakes. Mine is basically original & I'm still trying to find more info on it as well. If you need any info for reference, I'll try to help you out. I may have a lead on a new front pan that goes behind the grille. I just got one & there is supposedly another available. Brakes are still a question as I did not begin to research them. I was going to upgrade mine as well, plus add the safety circuit to apply brakes on air loss. A friend of mine is working on one in his 64 car.
He has found it is good to know all the differences between the two. If you have a 409, knowing the parts that are the same as a 348, ask for the 348 parts, they are often cheaper. I believe they only came with the HD front axle. Is the rear axle also 10 lug to match the front? Don't forget to run the brake shoe adjusters all the way in to help clear any lip on the drum before removing. After further investigation I realized that someone had backed the slack adjusters all the way off the rear air brakes so they could tow it. After re-adjusting and bolting the duals back on fired it up and went for a ride. Brakes are in great shape!!! As an old truck salesman, the reason for what you're seeing is that it was an entirely regional preference. East of the Mississippi, the Dayto wheel with demountable rims was popular and westo fo the Mississippi, everything had Budd wheels. If you made a mistake in ordering a truck, you were in big trouble as it was almost impossible to sell the truck with the wrong wheels for your area. I recall buying a truck from another dealer that had Daytons on the front and Budds on the rear. I had to order another truck with Budds on the fron and Daytons on the rear and switch them. Took me two years to sell the truck with Daytons.
