So bit the bullet and bought the carter yf replacement carb for my leaky Rochester carb….
Got the rebuild kit with the carter, thought was being smart and took the gasket for throttle body to where the truck is stored and it fits, great.
About 16 hours to get old carter clean and rebuild, go to reinstall carb and the throttle body on the carter doesn’t fit on the engine…am I missing an adapter plate in between or do I have a much bigger issue? Everything in the rebuild kit went fine but stuck here
The throttle body is stamped “1-630” once finally got it clean enough to read and bolts fine onto the carter yf 2100

The Carter YF964S on my 216 has "1-630" cast into the throttle body. So you may have a throttle body for a 216 carb instead of one for a 235, which I believe has a wider bolt spacing on the manifold than on a 216.
Carbking can tell you for sure.

Mako1975,

I seem to recall several recent conversations about Carter YF2100S carbs. You can do a search here: Searching the Site to hopefully help in your dilemma.

I do recall that a recent conversation talked about Carter YF964S models (for 216 applications) which has a smaller throttle body base to match the 216 intake. A picture (attached below) shows that 216 version having a "1-630" throttle base. May be what you got was the correct upper body with the YF2100S stamping, but with a 216 base mated up (others have said this has been a common problem usually caused by indiscriminate re-builders).

Hope you are able to get the issue resolved.

Am sure others with more knowledge and possible helpful solutions will chime in too.

EDIT: Kevin beat me to the answer - lol!

Look in the parts for sale section there is a screaming deal ,although the base has been drilled for both side manifolds .

Apparently Carter produced 2100's for both 216's and 235's.
Buoymaker posted a sales sheet here showing them available for '50 thru '59 engines.

But since Dan has already rebuilt the carburetor he has, wouldn't it make more sense to elongate the mounting holes in the base he already has so he doesn't have to rebuild another carburetor?

Good idea ,my thinking was it is the correct base ,but as long as the rest of the base is the same why not widen the mounting holes

Having paid a lot for the carb I’m not sure I want to drill out holes of near 70 year old equipment to make it work, but last resort.
Also my first rebuild so was excited to hopefully get her running again and was assuming I’ll have a of tuning troubleshooting ahead of me even if I built correctly but stuck as this step first.
I’ll try to post some pictures appreciate the fast replies this community is always so informative

You might be able to find a stray base or junk carb with a good base. I'm sure Jon H will be along sooner or later with a suggestion.

Maybe he has one laying around to trade.

What did you use to clean it up? Looks nice and shiny. thumbs_up I plan on using an ultrasonic cleaner on my 964 (which wasn't quite a grungy as yours).

Is it actually a 2100 or a 964 like the photo captions say? The number should be stamped on the bowl section.

The throttle bodies will probably swap over, so all you'd need is a junk carb. It could even be cracked as long as the throttle body was good. And the only rebuild parts in the throttle body are the idle needle and the throttle shaft, which aren't usually included in a rebuild kit. Maybe someone here will swap with you.

Yes used ultra sonic cleaner but since was so caked it definitely took couple cycles and some brushing in between lots of work but ultrasonic is great!

It wasn't you, or your iPad. wink Gord posted a photo with a caption, and the forum software sometimes keeps the same caption for later photos in the thread. I had forgotten about that glitch.
