The tailgate I have is bent. Not certain if it's salvageable or not. Has anyone had any luck repairing them or is it best to just get a new one? Truck is a 1950 3600. Thanks!

Depends on how bent. It's going to be pretty hard to straighten the rolled sections or remove dents from them without pulling the ends to get inside. Good used tailgates are hard to find. I looked in lots of places and wound up buying a new one from Mar-K on a visit down that way. Everywhere I looked I found trashed tailgates. I cut the center section out of my old one and will make a wall hanging out of it someday.

We repaired our tailgate. Drilled out the spot welds to remove the end pieces. Banged out the dents using a piece of pipe and body hammer. Plug welded the end pieces back in. Whew! On reflection, it would have been a lot easier to go the Mar-K route. Shipping cost would have been horrendous - probably more than the cost of the gate itself.
You really did turn that sow's ear into a silk purse. Unfortunately my original tailgate was way worse. In fact, it was so bad, I don't even have a picture of it. I cut out the center section with CHEVROLET on it and am making a wall hanging out of that. [on edit] here's a pic. The boards will be ripped down a bit to make the frame.
