Good evening everyone,

My 51 has a new factory type floor mat but I would like to get some that I can put on top of that and keep it clean and protected. Just curious what kind of aftermarket floor mats some of you are using?

TIA,

Kevin

Looks like the consensus is no mats on top of mats.
I once heard that.... People are never not communicating!

If you want an outside the box idea....

Look at cocoa mats made for sports cars. They'll look intentionally a different texture.

Today you match your mat color in your new truck to the color of your soil so it's not as noticeable.

Original black mats in farm trucks were quickly coated with dirt and dust so it didn't matter much. No air conditioning so the windows were rolled down and cowl vent open. All it takes is one dusty road to initiate a new mat.

You can purchase clear vinyl that is used to cover stairs or high use areas. Roll it out and let it bake in the sun. The heat helps to flatten the vinyl and most of the noxious vinyl smell will go away. Cut to shape of your floorboard. You have to allow for battery and master cylinder (rubber plug) access.

No mats on top of mats? If your new TV is on top of your old TV... you must be a redneck...

Guys,

I am kinda picky and like to keep my old truck clean. Kinda like our truck drivers at work. Even though they have Kenworth mats, they still put a towel down to keep things clean. Last 50 3100 I had, I got a cheap set of front mats and put in the floor to keep from wearing the factory type mat and to keep it clean.

I just threw this post out for ideas.

Have a good evening.

A towel fits in the washing machine better than a Kenworth floormat.

The long haul truck drivers that I have talked to cover the floor and the seats to catch things that fall down and to make cleanup easier when you're not hauling. Time is money and the boss man always wants a quick turnaround. Only stop for mandatory sleep periods and to refuel. You eat, drink and other things as you drive.

Stovebolt GM trucks were designed to be working trucks. They were expected to get dirty.

But a preserved 70 year old truck is different from a work truck.

Kthomas- go to your local big box building supply store. You will find a selection of area rugs/ mats meant for entrance hallways , mud rooms and so on. Pick out the color you like and cut to fit. Drop into place , remove and beat against nearby tree when necessary.

Cheap and easy.

People forget that the early GM designed trucks were designed to do real work. Dirt was expected. A great many roads at that time were dirt. Today we are spoiled with things like environment controlled cabins. Dirt roads are avoided because it might make those rugged-looking hard to clean low-profile wheels dusty. If you want to maintain a 70 year old Stovebolt truck in a preserved state then a nice clean garage is perfect. When showtime comes, a covered automobile transport hauler to get it there.

Hey Kevin, I'm late to the show as usual , take a look at these pages . I think you'll find it interesting. The one page is from the 1954 Truck brochure, one from Chevrolet Accessories for 1952 Dealer List and Net Price Schedule, and one from the 1952 Master Parts catalog, not sure what was available in 1951.
