Lots of work on Brad's part ... pure enjoyment (and references) for you!

For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jun 2006 Posts: 39 Member | | Member Joined: Jun 2006 Posts: 39 | According to the military Chevy and GMC sites, these trucks came with 6:16 or the taller (higher gears of 5:43.
I think I'll leave Cloey as is, a crawler, so I don't have to change to a higher RPM engine like the 261. I don't belive the 235 babbitt engine would care much for added RPMs.
Am I thinking right? | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | if you change to lower numerical gears, RPM's go down, not up, and regardless of what ya do, yer right foot controls the RPM what counts is how much weight you plan to carry and what kind of sustainable top speed you'd like Bill | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,733 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,733 | Dale: I'm switching this thread to the BigBolts colume where you'll find some guys who know these MilSpec trucks inside out. Likely better answers there for you. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2006 Posts: 39 Member | | Member Joined: Jun 2006 Posts: 39 | Thank you Dave.
Yes, Red58 Thank you too. I knew this information; it was just buried under flotsam in my head!
This 235 has barely enough power to haul this truck over hills so I'll leave it as is....a nice crawler. | | |
