Hello all, new member of a 1953 Chevy 5 window short wheel base.
Spent the last 6 months putting it back together from a restoration shop that had it for 3 years and never finished.
Actually got to fire up yesterday, but the linkage rod we built to work on the twin carbs is dragging on the Fenton headers.
Any info where access a new one would be great.
I am taking in for dual exhausts then try to adjust the timing.

Thanks

Hi Rocky and welcome to Stovebolt! I am going to move your post to a different forum that is more specific to your question. The "Welcome Centre" is a great place to introduce yourself, but the technical forums are better for getting help with issues like yours. I see you already have posted a wanted add in our Swap Meet -- good move!

We appreciate you finding us and jumping right in!

I'm sure the experts in the High Performance forum can help.

Regards,
John

If you can post some detailed photos of the linkage by using the tutorial at the bottom left of the page, it might be easier to suggest some modifications to what you've already fabricated, rather than starting over with something different. Usually a little bit of tweaking to an existing design can solve an interference problem. "Measure twice- - - - -cut once!"

Possibly thicker carburetor to intake mounting gaskets would give the necessary clearance.

If they are Weber 32/36 carbs, check out http://www.langdonsstovebolt.com/store/#!/Fuel-Related/c/18665948.

Once you get the linkage gremlins sorted out, you're pretty likely to discover that you've either got one carb too many, or one not enough. The firing order on an inline six makes it perform best with either one, or three carburetors. If you choose the 3-carb route, you'll need carburetors that would work best on a single cylinder engine the displacement of one of the cylinders on the stovebolt six, since only one cylinder at a time is being supplied by each intake port. I'm working on designing a 3-carb setup using Keihin "Constant Vacuum" carbs for an 80 cubic inch Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Yep! Concur completely!

A few years ago I was thinking about a similar setup, but with 3 of those quirky floatless, variable jets Tillotson carbs.
I think they where also used on Harleys.

Those Keihins are sort of a downsized version of the Stromberg carb used on some of the British sports cars back in the 1970's like the Triumph Spitfire. 3 of them on a 235 or 261 Chevy six should have approximately the right CFM rating, and the mixture is adjustable with jets and metering rods.

These Keihins frequently show up at swap meets, and H-D dealers and shops keep them when upgrading.
Don't make an offer, let them tell you what's fair, I've had great luck getting obsolete stuff cheap.
Important to get 3 exactly the same, they have H-D part numbers on them that show up in H-D parts manuals.
Get the aluminum manifold and rubber coupler too, good start for manifold stub.
Use only very low fuel pressure, they used gravity on the bikes.

Okay folks. Get the discussion out of the ditch and back on the road.
HRL will enlighten us on the Keihins when he has it ready.
Everybody put on their "Be Nice to Newbies" cap.
Rocky posted pictures (Southern Bolters).
Looks like dual Rochester B's to me.
Anybody have this configuration and what to send Rocky a picture of your solution?
