I have a '48 1.5 ton Loadmaster and am going to be looking to sell it. It was my Grandpa's and has 18,000 miles on it(original miles no speedometer broke or disconnected). It has been stored in a shop it's entire life and has absolutely no rust. It has the original front tires on it. In fact everything on it is original. I overhauled the engine after driving it here from my Grandads farm in Eastern Montana to Western Washington. A grand total of 1,200 miles without a single problem. It has a dump on it that works great. I have somewhat of an idea what it is worth but was wondering if some of you seasoned Stovebolters could tell me what you think it might be worth and the best place to advertise selling it.

If you overhauled the engine everything on it is not original.

My I suggest you have a look here: What\'s This Old GMC Truck Worth? this will give you the basic info that it all depends on what some one is willing to spend.

Sounds like a great truck, but don't expect to get a lot of money for it. Not many people want the bigger trucks.

If you are in a hurry take a bunch of good digital pictures of it, write a clear and detailed description and put it on ebay.

Avoid creating obstacles to a sale like insisting on only cash and no shipping or other things that will slow a buyer down.

Oh and tell people where Ashford is, since even people who live in Washington, like me, have no idea where that is...

If you aren't in a hurry take it to the bigger car shows and the ATHS shows with a for sale sign in the window. Make sure people know you drove it to the show.

like everything else, it's worth what someone will pay. last year i saw just the cab of an early 40's cabover at a yard sale for $1000.00.

i thought that was a bit high, but it was in great shape. it sold, without haggling.

i have a 50 1 ton, and a 49 1 1/2 ton that run, and were given to me to get out of the p.o.'s yard. just got a line on a complete 59 1 1/2 ton, low miles with a grain bed and good hoist for a couple of hundred.

like i said, it depends.

i figure a good guess would be in the 2 grand range, maybe

That's a tough one. In my own personal little world, I would love to have it but the bigger trucks are still plentiful. I got my red 48 with only 18,000 miles on it without any rust and in driving condition for $750.00. It would be hard to justify spending a large sum on a big bolt when there is still alot of nice ones to be had for cheap. You see quite a few on e-bay and their counterparts with high reserves that don't even get one bid. It's too bad for the sellers, good for us buyers. Probably not what you wanted to hear,
Scott

Oh, I forgot about the question. In my case, it would cost more to get it home than it's worth, which is unfortunate. I think Kool is on track, $2K would be an average if someone in your area was interested in it.

Just as soon as I read my post I told my wife "it is not all original". Oops

48Bigtrucks are you sure you do not want a cross country adventure with my '48. Going 45 mph you really get to see the country quite well. Just kidding it was a very long drive.

Thanks for all the good information. The prices are a little lower than I wished for but then aren't they always. I guess I will advertise it locally and see if I get lucky on one of the local farmers in the area.

The adventure driving it home sounds fun to me... and I'm only 100 miles or so away.

But I have two more big trucks than I can justify already, so I'll have to let someone else have that fun.

You migth try both the Portland and Seattle craigslist.

I would love to do a cross country drive like that, but the wife would kill me if I used my vacation time to do it. It would take a week probably, then another week for my kindeys to heal,

What's a truck worth? I have 2 '54 big bolts, one of which could easily run, that I can't get scrap value for.

Okay I just got home from the All GM show in Graham. I completely forgot about your truck. I should have driven a few more miles to get a look!

You asked a valid question, "What's it worth?", but then you made a veiled (or not so veiled) reference to selling in truck here in Big Bolts.

Don't do the latter!

Read the feature topic.

I just deleated another message that should have been on the E-Bay links topic, not here.

I'm not mean, I just do my best at being firm, fair and consistent.

I'm sorry fellers, but I don't have time to repost or move your message to the proper topic. That is your resonsibility from the git go.

agree w/ Scott 110%, especially since the appropriate answer to the question posed [... Stovebolters could tell me .... the best place to advertise selling it.] would more helpfully be: advertise it in the Trucks for Sale section of the swap meet forum, right here

I see no "veiled (or not so veiled) reference" to selling here in Big Bolts

Thanks for the support guys. I actually sent Glenn an email asking that he remove my topic because in no way, shape or form was I trying to sell my '48 on this website. I was actually making lighthearted conversation and hoping to get a laugh. In fact I have not even responded to UR2SLO because I thought that would be in violation of the selling it on this website.

relax, rainier, there are no prohibitions here concerning members asking to be emailed about "off topic" things, and there's nothing wrong with your original post or the way it was written - Glenn has a predilection to view language somewhat differently than the general run of us - I'd bet you'd know where to list a for sale once you sound out the interest and check out Jolly's advice page, and now you have an idea the 'General Truck Talk' might be a friendlier area for general questions like yours grin

It's worth whatever someone will pay for it.I found my truck 1/4 miles in the woods where it sat long enough for 5inch thick trees to grow where the road used to be.I had no idea what it was worth(the owner wasn't even selling it)so I offered $500.It didn't start and only had 3 good tires but I would've paid $750-$1000 if I had to because it was my truck.maybe I paid too much, maybe I paid too little,I don't care cause now it's mine. http://community.webshots.com/mypho...mp;albumID=551424330&security=ekZMUw

Rainiertruckman, et al.

I left this post alone precisely because you did not make the offer to sell, but are "going to be looking to," which easily translates into Texas lingo as "fixin' to."

Bill is right that I view what is said and written, not differently, but precisely and adhere to the meaning of words. My use of the term "veiled" was bad, and I apologise to all.

Carry on.

64. for what it's worth, when i got the truck, that's where it was heading for. it really was pretty rough, with just the hood being in pretty decent shape. lot's of people upset about the policy regarding vehicles the county considers "junk" but they send out a notice, and if you don't pay, can add a lein on your property. after paying for a tow truck, i couldn't afford any more. there's a point when a guy has to say "enough".

had to build a carport, with gates to keep the cabover i have, so it can't be seen from the road. the policy is nuts.

i think, since the election, things might slack off a bit. the majority of the county is rural, and some of the old iron around here runs, and is used only at harvest/planting time. those folks are screaming, and they should. one guy a few years back got a visit from area plan about his "junk" antique tractor. he turned on the gas, spun the crank, and it started. he ordered them off his property.

back to the topic, again, form the ad, which i assumed did go to the so-called "right place", i got no feedback. i will not pay to place an ad to give stuff away.

i am, close to having a place to put stuff.

maybe better in the future. now, if i can find an old wrecker to haul stuff.

the next county over has enacted a county-wide code systtem & is doing away w/junkyards, farms, & generally hassling anyone who has anything in thier yard. I have already seen a number of 'Bolts,Fords & Internationals off to the scrapper. the big trucks aren't "cute" slammed or tubbed, so off to China they go. there was a 58-9 Viking wrecker across the scales a few mos back, complete very nice truck, looked like it would run. no one wants the big stuff,,even saw a mid-50s Chevy cabover cab at the local dump!!!brian
