I think I know how to solve but I'm curious what's going on.
I assembled the front fenders to the core support along with the grill, both upper and lower grill supports and the hood latch panel. Then lifted into place putting the top rear bolts of the fenders on just to hold it... And found the core support base is 5" in front of where the core support mounting bracket is (presuming that's what that is).
I think there's another hole in the frame 5" further forward, can I simply move this bracket to the forward location and then attach the core support?
If so, why would there be two mounting locations?
The part that confuses me is there are clearly holes in the inner fender where the core support could also attach. But then the hood latch doesn't reach.
I may have found an answer somewhere, the V8 and I6 engines had the core supports in different places? v8 had it further back with top and side filler panels between the grill assembly and the core support?
Any harm in putting the core support bracket in the forward location with a 265 v8? I'm assuming fan/radiator distance would be off by 5" is the harm?
I believe my 57 was original V8, but not certain. Anyway, it had a deep shroud. I believe that is also required in a conversion, but not certain. Someone like Mike B. will advise.

If I remember right on 58 to 59 the core support did not move, and the V8 used a nice fan shroud. 55 to 57 moved the support for and aft like you say. If you leave it forward then a shroud is recommended. When moving the core support the front section did not move a plate was added between that and the support.

Kicking self for selling off my Taskforce trucks. Still looking for an LCF or conventional big bolt in decent shape.
As of 10-26-2022, A 55.2 Taskforce long bed now the work begins
The good news is while I don't have the extension piece, I have two core supports so can use one in each position and make a flat rectangle to fill the gap. Best of both worlds.
