Hello, new member here and new to these trucks, have been dealing alot with muscle cars
I have a 1955 Chevy 3600 dually truck, has a 58' 283 engine with stock hydra-matic 4 spd automatic transmission setup

plans are just to use the body on this truck and I did search for other posts on steering column/ cab removal
I think that I am going the direction to pull cab off chassis with steering column in place

question is, I se that I can unscrew the turn signal lever, but how do you remove the automatic shifter lever on top of column?
so I can just lift cab up and over column

I am trying to keep the rolling 3600 dually chassis with 283 and hydra-matic transmission setup on tact and not damage any parts to sell off
only using the body from this truck that will go onto a aftermarket chassis

justhorenround suggested this be moved to Interiors to help answer OP's question.

Two screws pointing towards the back of the steering wheel close to the steering column itself. That will allow the back part of the shift indicator to slide back and off. Then you will see the two screws that mount the shifter to the column. It all becomes more obvious after that.

If its a 2nd series, if I remember I unbolted the steering gear from frame to remove the steering column. I would not try to lift the cab over the column. Those are not re popped so? If anyone wants to toss them I'll take em.

I needed to replace the steering box on my ‘56 and it didn’t take long for me to figure out that for expediency I needed to replace the whole box and column as a unit. Fortunately the donor column wasn’t radically different in appearance from the original᠁ except for two screw holes where the gear indicator was mounted (mine is a 4-speed).

yes it is a second series
Iwas trying not to have to disconnect the shifter linkage rods from column base, going to automatic trans
plus have read a few horror stories about trying to remove pitman and / or the steering box
this is a California truck, so frame and box is fairly clean for age, not crusty like a northeast truck
