I purchased the Dexstar wheels a couple years back and then decided I wanted original hubcaps on my 1954 3604. Does any aftermarket company sell wheels that would allow the original hubcaps to fit ? All suggestions welcome.

I haven’t done it yet, but I have read that you can rivet the original rim clips to the newer dexstar rim and use original hubcaps. It looks like it will work on my 16” dexstar wheels and the original clips.

Here is a link showing the rims with the hubcaps. It is 3/4 of the way down.

That sounds like a good idea. Now, if I had the clips...

Wheelsmith sells wheels and hubcaps that fit as a matched set. If you want to use their wheels with your original hubcaps, they sell clips that allow you to do that.

Take some thought into making this modification secure. You don't want something you created become airborne and travel through someone's windshield.

Original hubcaps have an inner steel cap covered by an outer stainless skin with the stamped "Chevrolet" (1947-53) or bowtie (for 1954 and 55 first). Expensive.
Reproduction caps come in different constructions of materials. If you look closely, you can tell a reproduction from and original.

I looked up the parts on Classic, their information says 6 required per wheel and for 1/2 ton only. What are your thoughts on that ?

They are correct about them fitting 1/2 ton only. I know the one ton clips are larger as I have both clips here.

As for 6 per side, I’d have to check an original rim at the farm. The one ton rims only had 4 per rim, alternating after each lug hole. I’d like to think that 1/2 ton would need 3 per rim. You would want to be able to pull them off, right? 😉

1/2 ton original wheels had 6 clips per wheel. GM later went to 3 per wheel when the wheels were widened to 5" for the 6 lug 16" wheels. I have a set of the 4.5" wide wheels and a 4" wide one (47-48?) and also a 5" wide wheel that has just the 3 clips.
