I have an old edbro pto that someone hooked up to my truck for the dump bed but never connected it to anything. I have a cable in the cab from a previous pto that i would like to use. The actuator switch pivots down in a half circle so im wondering if anyone has a good way to hook it up.

Heres some more pictures. Its an edbro model 201 and has the pump integrated in the pto. I tried to show in the pictures how it rotates down in a half circle and has that tab on the top that can pivot to either side. Im going to try to use the old cable from the firetruck pump to actuate it. If i cant figure it out, I may rip a pto off a truck at the scrap yard instead.

Does that little swivel lever need rotate 180* to move the driven gear in and out of gear? If so, that will make linkage hard to configure so it works smoothly.
When searching for another PTO, make sure it's from the same model transmission as the driven gears are not all the same and won't mesh with your drive gear.

It seems like it does need to rotate the full 180* to engage/disengage. There seems to be a spring/detent at either end of the stroke. That is good to know to pay attention to the gears. This pto isnt even from this transmission and hasnt been engaged to my knowledge. Is there a good way to double check that it will work? Measure angle of teeth and spacing?

The only way I can think of to know if your PTO will fit your trans is to drain the trans, pull the PTO cover off, hold the PTO up and see if the Drive Gear and Driven Gear meshes. If you install a couple long studs you can be sure you have everything lined up as you check the fit. The gear backlash is adjusted by adding gaskets.
Note, the 6-bolt mounting pattern is an SAE standard used by everybody, so you can't go by that to say it fits or not, it's all about the gears...

Well luckily for me, the pto is already off so i could figure out how it worked! Unfortunately, there isnt an output shaft on the pto that i can wiggle to check backlash since its all enclosed. Guess ill have to do that another way.

Pretty sure its the heavy duty spicer 5 speed, wide ratio if that matters. Working on getting the dump bed with dual pistons and remote reservoir to work.

What year/make/model/engine truck are you working on? What's the shift pattern? The more info we have the easier it will be to help...you can create a signature line with your trucks info so it automatically shows up when you make a post.

Think i got the signature now. Its a 59 chevy spartan 100 with a 348. 5 speed trans, pretty sure its a spicer. Forward row is R,2,4 down is 1,3,5. Got the biggest hydrovac brakes.

If i found a cable pto with the correct gears, i should be able to put it on either side of the transmission right? Most of them i see are passenger side but my current one is drivers side. (I do have a passenger side opening too if i had to)

What equipment are you planning to operate with it?
1950 Chevrolet 3100 (Ol' Roy)
1939 Packard Standard Eight Coupe (The Phantom) | 1956 Cadillac Coupe de Ville (The Bismarck) | 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 coupe |1966 Ford Mustang (Little Red) | 1969 Pontiac GTO (The Dishpit) I 1979 Ford F-100 | 1976 Ford F-150 (Big Red) | 1995 Ford F-150 (Newt)
Unless the rotation of the gears will help it that last bit, theres a pretty definate click at each end. No clue how it originally hooked up is part of the problem. Could have been a lever but 180 is still hard to get.
