What in the name of Bubba is this??
It looks like an old reostat type switch…..but it is being used as a junction box.! The 3 wires are one from the ignition switch, one goes to the coil and the 3rd goes to the alternator.

They are all three connected to the same lug on one side of the old switch. At first look, I thought it might be a Bubba attempt to reduce voltage…..but they are all connected to the same lug. Do y’all think I’d be Ok replacing this with a different type of connection block? Has anyone seen anything like this done before?

I think you are right about what the device is and also what its current (pardon the pun) use is. Take it out and connect the wires together.

Thanks Bill.! Can you think of any reason why I’d need to reduce the voltage in this connection? (I’m running a 12v system with alternator). I wouldn’t think any of these 3 items would need a reduced voltage, (ignition switch, coil, and alternator.

Maybe the other lug used to feed a 6V device (radio, heater fan, etc.)

That is a Flux Capacitor similar to what is used on special DeLoreans. Watch your top speed so that you don't accidentally time travel.
Its crazy what we find on these old trucks.
