I’m needing to replace both front and rear bumpers on ‘41 p/u. Summit and Jegs list. For around $200 each and Chev of 40s and other vintage sites list for nearly $500. There has to be some differences. Can’t be that much of a markup for no real reason. I wasn't able to find them. But when I searched on a '51 pickup, I found various offerings on Summit ranging from $200-$400+.
There are different levels of quality, especially chrome plating. Some of the vendors advertise "driver" and "show" quality, with the commensurate difference in pricing.

I'm going to try that as there are no chrome shops in the state and shipping a bumper two directions would be just nuts. Or chrome powder coating. I've seen a grille that was done that way, and it looked good, but it was from a distance.

What about painting them instead of chroming them? Were they painted when new?

I bought one for the front several years ago, still looks new. I doubt most people notice the difference. Since I was also missing rear brackets, I fabricated the rear out of C channel for a "utilitarian" look.
