I'm swapping the 216 for the 235 and want to be able to keep the wide belt to appear as nearly stock as possible. I'm using the 216 valve cover. | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 28,674 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 28,674 | The balancer will fit, but the position of the water pump on the newer engine cannot be hidden, even with Dave's relocation adapter and the 216 water pump. Ray Charles could "see" the difference! What do you plan to do about the pushrod cover height difference?

Six cylinders including 216, 235, 194, 230, and 250 all have the same diameter crankshaft snout (1 1/4") as well as most small block Chevy V8's. All the balancers for those engines will press fit onto a stovebolt crankshaft, but they won't necessarily have belt grooves that line up properly. Some have bolt-on pulleys. Jerry

I'm a pragmatic idealist - everything should be perfect, but it ain't. There will also be a split exhaust and a dual carb intake. You might ask, then, "Why do you want it to be as close to original as possible?" I've asked myself that question already and can't answer myself. At my age and with south Georgia heat this is a slow process, so some things will probably change. Anyway, I really do appreciate your advice - it answers my question.

I've done a considerable amount of experimentation on stovebolt balancers, and I might be able to offer an alternative to a 70 year old item that would allow you to run a wide belt with a newer part.
