i recently got my 6400 going again after i had to use the fuel pump in my nova, and i'd forgot about the clutch issues i was having, and it seems to have gotten worse. the pedal has almost no feel, like the diaphragm is shot. unfortunately, i understand that this is a 9 bolt diaphragm, which cannot be sourced newly. what are my options? at some point i want to put a 3-53 that my grandpa has in it (gama goat motor) but i won't be able to bring that motor from NY to NE until next summer, and i need to haul a lot of dirt with this truck between now and then, and i really don't want to have to throw a bunch of cash into something i'm going to be upgrading next year. is there a cheap way to get this thing working for a little while? thanks for any and all help.

When I first acquired my '57 LCF the clutch was working poorly. As I moved it around the yard under its own power the clutch progressively worsened. It then froze in a spot between engaged and disengaged and I could no longer move the truck under its own power. Pulled the inspection cover to find the entire clutch cavity filled with mouse nest and the throw-out bearing rusted tight on the input snout. Pulled the engine and tranny and put in a new clutch, mine was easy to match 'cuz it's a '57 with a 283.

There are shops who can rebuild your existing clutch and pressure plate. That is what I did on my '50 Chevy COE. Check out BG&S transmissions in Grand Island or maybe places in Omaha.

i think i've found a parts truck with a later 235 and sm420, i may get that and put the drivetrain from it in temporarily, as it has several other things that i want as well. but thanks for the tip, ill talk to a trans shop. sure is a pain finding parts for these old hunks of iron, but they are so much fun when they work.
