I recall reading on here that some 1.5 tons had one-piece wheels. Going to check out a 1949 4400 today in hopes of finding serviceable wheels for my 1950 6400. Pics look like one-piece or locking ring - either of which is acceptable to me. Does any one know tire size for the 4400? I’m assuming its 7.5 -20 but I’m hoping it’s 8.25 - 20 or that the rim would accept that size.

Here's a Tech Tip on Wheels that may have some info that will help.

In there is also a discussion back to the forums about it.

I'm certain the topic has been discussed several times here. Try to search button in the menu on top.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the reply - yes, I’ve read the tech tips as well as Griggs’ pinned post many, many times over the years of searching for a solution to my wheel woes - I haven’t come across an answer to what size tire would fit on the rims from a 4400 but will look again.

I did find an 09 post from spanky that referenced a 1949 4400 with 8.25 -20s all the way around -if that was on the original 5” wide rims instead of the 6” wide on my 6400 I should be good.

Great!

(I sent a PM to Grigg, also. Maybe he'll respond!)

The first year for the 1-piece tubeless rim was 1956. They can be found on the 4000 series trucks (the 6000 series had 6-lug) and will have the same 10-lug bolt pattern as your truck, but will have a 5.25" center hole...your truck has a 4.75" hole, so you'd need to make spacer rings to bring the hole back to 4.75".

I purchased two 5" wide rims with 7.50-20 on them off the front axle of a school bus. They worked great on the rear of my 46 2 ton, but they had holes for 9/16 studs in them. Just had to drill them out for 1/32" clearance for my 5/8" studs with a hand drill.
