Thanks! Credit for laying the paint goes to my father...strictly a hobby activity for him but he's gotten pretty good at it over the years.

The clear on the doors isn't the usual clear that we use...so there's a bit more orange peel in the paint than normal. It will sand out nicely though.

On a different note... trans cooler is installed and connected. Had the spare rims and tires mounted but I'm not sure if I like the look of them when I laid them against the truck... will see once I put them on, for now the steelies are my first choice.

big moment for me... got a door hung and didn't damage anything. Truck's one step closer to looking less like a parts car

3 random holes in the dash got missed when the dash was painted᠁ given the choice of filling holes and repainting vs improvisation᠁ well laziness is the mother of all invention.

Turned the 3 holes into a tach mount

We all make mistakes, after all we are only human. it’s how we cover them up to look like it was meant to be, that defines a true craftsman.nice job!

I’ve always preferred a smooth front fender without anything mounted on them. Since my trucks a 40 and I’m attempting to keep a stock outward appearance I’m running the original parking lights᠁

Color sanded enough of the fender to mount the parking lights᠁ I’m not overly thrilled, here’s to hoping the look grows on me.

When I got the truck it had the standard column mounted and hose clamped turning indicator box. I've made an attempt to keep the steering column "clean" and didn't want to hang that box back off the column.

Looking online I found a kit from Speedway motors that was a self canceling system utilizing two button switches.

Figured I'd give it a try, made a mount for the switches, threw some black paint on it and hung the bracket with a magnet. It will suck up a little tighter to the dash once it's final mounted without the magnet. Happy with the way it sort of blends in, now I just need to finish the bracket, give it some better paint and fully mount it.

Bench seat is finished, which means the trucks interior is now 95% finished. I love the she simplicity of these interiors.

Glad I didn’t end up paying someone else to do it either᠁ way cheaper and it turned out pretty well. Will probably need to pull the lower front in a bit but it’s not terrible.

Been working on paint stripping and mocking up the box. Have to relocate/adjust the tailgate as the mounting tabs don’t line up with the bedside.

Got the bumper brackets painted and test fit the front bumper.

Progress of sorts

Bunch of little things attempted, some even accomplished, others not so much. Bed fill panels are in, bed wood is getting stained in ebony and looks nothing like what the camera's picking up. Metal vacuum line to the transmission is shaped/routed and the radiator mounts are started. Had to make a small bracket to offset the moroso trans dipstick mount as the filler cap was hitting the firewall...

My big fail this weekend was putting brake fluid into the truck, turns out the proportioning valve included with my brake assembly is deep set and my fittings aren't tall enough to set the flare. On the upside all the other flares and fittings are actually functioning.

Started cutting and routing my plug wires.... happy with how the passenger side turned out but the drivers side header posses some issues and is a little messy. First coat of sealant went on the wood and it's not turning out as black as I thought it might. It's a very dark brown in most light but it sort of has an ebony look in certain light.

Some random and unrelated updates᠁ tailgate is just about ready for paint, first 2 rad mounts are done and the battery tray is sort of mounted. Ran into an issue with one nut not clearing the backside of the crossmember. So a typical day trying to put things where they don’t belong.

It gets the creative juices flowing just trying to figure out a cleaner install, a little head scratching can go a long way. Some great work, dang your getting close.

Turns out it only took some minor head scratching 😁. I drilled a hole to clear the rivet on the cross member and it wasn’t large enough to let the angle iron sit flush. 2 drill bit sizes up and my problem is resolved. Once I decided where the battery was going I relocated the solenoid to the rear. One quick and dirty bracket with a splash of paint gets it done.

Another couple of small jobs started and some are even completed. Started mocking up the exhaust, battery disconnect is mounted, radiator's done, hood prop's back on front and rear hood latches are in. Still need to get the overflow tank bolted in...forgot to do that yesterday.

Not much in the way of visible progress as of late...fair bit of little stuff getting done though. Proportioning valve showed up and got installed so now the truck has brakes... still need to adjust the rod a touch. Started working on the parking brake mount and figured out where I'm putting my fuse block. Upper radiator hose is on, overflow tank is mounted. Bed wood is getting it's final coats of sealant and just a bunch of other random stuff.... last pick of the truck on torq-thrusts ...went back to steelies.

Plug wires are all done᠁ started running some wires. Rear tails are routed. Using a sheath covering from summit.. really nice stuff to work with.

Drove north and picked up glass for the truck. Highly recommend “our glass shop” in parksville for island folk looking to have glass cut.

Raining this morning᠁ good enough time to start playing with the windshield. Went together not badly and tested well for fit᠁ the rubber seal however is a complete pain.

Great looking truck. I'm currently working on a 39 chevy truck and want to add disc brakes to the original axle. I see that you used a kit from MP. I went to the MP site, but they only list for 47 and later GM trucks. I'm assuming you used that kit and it fits the earlier truck spindles, or did you have to modify it to fit?

Story around the brakes is that I downloaded one of their master catalogs from 2017 which listed a 1928-1940 kit᠁like you I didn’t see it on their website.

I emailed them enquiring about kit DB1751B 1928-40 GM1/2-TON (5 x 4 3/4" BOLT CIRCLE) and it’s availability.I got an email response back that the kit was still available but due to some website upgrades the kit hadn’t yet been added back.

You might want to email/call them and ask if they still produce DB1751B.

Cheers

Got some more wiring done, started on the overhead gauges... went pretty well until I decided to drill the holes for 3 switches. Funny but true story... I started drilling the first hole and my dad walks in. He says that should have been drilled before it got painted... heavy foreshadowing on that statement. Sure enough the wood blocks supporting the panel slipped out and the drill chuck kissed the panel. sigh... so the ghetto fix is to put a washer behind the lock nut.

Another option is to go with a later front axle. I swapped out my '40 front end with one from a '51. Looked like everything was the same except the spindles are a bit larger diameter. Not sure of which years are suitable, but that should be pretty easy to figure out.

Referring to Dennis's post above...

Is the width of the '51 axle the same?

Drilled the fenders and came across the realization that one has the correct shape and the other one doesn’t . After some adjustments and it’s good enough for a farm truck standard᠁ fender fits as good as it’s going to.

Some more exhaust work done with slightly less fail. Tips are angled up 8 degrees᠁ not sure if I’ll turn them down or not
