Hi all, I've been able to date this engine but was wondering what car or truck that it came out of. The block casting is #3836233, date code e6 55, conv1, and serial #0297906t55y. It came with the bell housing adapter and flywheel for an automatic. Thank you, Gerry Lee

Can't really tell much other than the block came off the conveyor on May 6 1955 (e=May, 6 55), made in Tonawanda (t), 1955 model year vehicle (55), and is a 235 originally equipped with a powerglide (y).

Other than that, I have no idea what vehicles were equipped with powerglides in 55, I'm sure somebody else here knows!

Powerglides were passenger car only equipment, other than a few aluminum case second generation transmissions that were used in the early 1960's in short bed sporty fleetside pickups. One of my high school students inherited one of them in very good condition from his grandfather back in the early 1990's. It had a 283 engine, a Powerglide, and the fancy trim package- - - - -one of the very early "Cowboy Cadillac" types!

I just learned that it could have come from a sedan delivery or a nomad. I guess we will never know for sure. Thanks for the help, Gerry Lee
