So far for hold downs all I have seen is an expensive cheesy, solid mount hold down for big bucks to hold a more modern non rotating distributor.
Does anyone make something that is like the factory stock unit?

I've done it pretty often. It's not "rocket surgery". Try an ad in the "parts wanted" forum- - - - -there are probably a bunch of distributors sitting around gathering dust where people have replaced them with various types of HEI units.

Even the original is pretty much junk, its funny in the past years I never paid much attention to them, till now when helping someone out with their distributor install.
Actually that whole system is a joke, but it has worked for how many years now? And yes there is room for improvement, but if a fellow wanted strictly stock it would be a hunting trip.
The reason there are no cheap knock offs is because it would be a slightly complicated die to make them.

Does that come on any other old sixes or is it 235 specific? I have some older non 235 engines in the scrap pile out back. I use almost all 6061 aluminum. It's pretty tuff stuff but I know that the 7000 and 8000 series are tougher. My Bicknel torque arm is some kind of aluminum alloy that was a nightmare to sand and polish. I think it was harder than stainless. I asked Bicknel at PRI what alloy it was and they just smiled. That being said my lathe doesn't care if it's steel or aluminum.

You sure hit it there "Actually that whole system is a joke" We are very fortunate that HEI is adaptable and works good on stovebolt engines. Not hard to see why the Australians call it a dizzy!!
