I'm new to the big truck stuff...I've got this 1952 GMC 350 dump truck and don't know what size it would be..

Here's some data off the plate on the A pillar..

Serial No. 354 24 S 1152

Gross Wt. 16,000

Max Gross Wt. 26,000

I bought the truck to get the 302 out of it to put into my '50 Chevy Fleetline. Before I pass it off or part some of it, I would like to know if it's a 1 1/2 or 2 ton or what?

Any help appreciated..and thanks in advance...

Unless someone switched engines, in the past. That 350 series, 2 ton, '52 model GMC truck, came with a 248 in it, from the factory. That's what the "24", in the Data plate number stands for. The 302's came in the, 450 series 3 ton, & 470 series 3 1/2 ton GMC's. If you do indeed see "302", stamped, on the flat ledge, at the base of the distributor. The orig. motor, has been swapped.

The engine has been pulled and is at the machine shop. However, the casting number on the block is 2193980 which indicates is it a 302. Somewhere in its life, the original probably gave it up...

Thanks for the info..

50s Chevys you've got a good lookin' truck there.

If all you want is the engine, I'm sure you can find somebody to take the rest of it off your hands.

There's a whole bunch of 'Bolters just east of you in the Metroplex, plus Cletis out there in Parker County.

Texan's seem to hoard old Chevy and GMC trucks, so you are in good company.

Here's a thought: Why not keep the truck and fix it up, then git yerself another engine for the Fleetline.

Well, first of all...I'm not going into how many vehicles I've "saved" in the last 18 years..I hardly think I qualify as a "hacker" and I don't have the desire to do anything unbecoming to this particular '52 GMC truck. This wasn't the original engine in this truck anyway...The head on the 302 in this truck was cracked, but I was able to salvage the "short block", etc. I've had to go through the expense and frustration of dealing with four (4) consecutive cracked heads in a row in my search for a good 302...Not funny and not cheap in the process. Finally, I have found a good 302 head which has been rebuilt and pressure tested OK...

Glenn, if you can give me "Cletis" email address or how to contact, I will see if he wants to come over and take this truck home... He's an hour and 15 minutes away..

Thanks in advance..
