Just wondering what this is above the rear window AND how do you get the rear window out? All th screws on the inside are removed and I was going to redo the window gasket as well.. would like to perhaps spray on tint? lightly? Thanks guys!

That is a felt/paper mix infused with tar and linseed oil. It was used to reduce noise and vibration. Was bonded to metal panels with a substance remarkably like roof tar patching material. Lasts about 8 to 10 years and then heat and age turn it into what you're looking at there. As I recall, once the 14 screws are removed, you press on the glass to separate and remove it. Spray on tint? Maybe, but it wouldn't be my choice. Glass is either tinted or not...add-on things don't always work as you hope. There is a product used on house windows (single pane) that isn't too bad. It works like a reflective foil and comes in different shades. Not going to make your nighttime vision that good, though. its flat glass and pretty cheap to replace if you really want tinted. check your local glass shop. careful with that zinc rear frame and if its like mine was, would invest in a new set of screws from carter or one of the others
