The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area The Electrical Bay Reverse (back-up) light- looking for something that looks right

I’d like to put in a backup light on my truck, as it has a T5 transmission with the switch on it. I’ve looked at chrome fog lights and even cheap custom motorcycle headlamp assemblies and farm tractor lights, but can’t find anything that will be dim enough so that it won’t blind people behind me….what are you using for a backup light (if you have one)?

I have a guide B-3 back up light on my suburban and I love it. Period correct and works great.

Guide B-31 is popular and expensive. It would have been Chevy dealer available for cars and truck.
For trucks one would install a back-up switch underneath the dash.
Since the T5 is not an original transmission you could change out your tail light(s) with modern ones that include the white backup lens.

Bouymqker, that is a really nice light, but probably well outside my budget! Kevinski, that is exactly what I was looking for. Must be for a really old MG…a TD?

I bought a 6 volt one. (My truck still 6 volt)
And it is hooked up to a lighted switch (like the original heater switch)
Under the dash below the headlight switch. It's not too bright but works great.
I was told it was an old Tractor rear light.

A couple of years ago I saw a fellow who had put 2 circular LED lights in the bed roll holes and run the connecting wires through the tubes and back out of sight. I thought it was pretty slick. At eye level for cars and pedestrians can see it easier than some of the ones I've seen people mount on or under the bumper and it doesn't look weird or get in the way of the tailgate. I even considered making these for the AD trucks.

You don't say what truck. If you have the rectangular lights you can use the 37-38 backup light that's made for that shape housing. It can mount above or below the housing. https://store.fillingstation.com/sh...mp;search=backup+light&searchtype=FT

Tiny, Mine is a ‘50 3600…. So no rectangular lights for me!

I purchased the one that Kevinski posted a picture of- I’ll post a review here after the bed is on and it’s installed.

Norcal Dave We had a 82 buick which my wife said had headlights on the back was fine. Saw a chrome light with a waffle glass lens that was good for that,very durable and able to take the weather oh no complaints on that buick. Maybe those brighter would keep others from backing into you !!

After all the effort I’ve put into this truck it would be wonderful if nobody rear ended me!

I never knew the spotlight could be completely reversed like that…that original B-31 light is exactly what I was looking for- but well outside my budget! I settled on the MG light, although I think I’ll have to change the bulb to a 12V.
