1954 gmc question.Does the rear fender inside were the running board attaches have a metal support that matches the shape of the running board or is there just regular washers used were the bolts attach the two together .Kevin

The fender should have a "doubler" strip on the inside that's about an inch wide IF factory. Many repros don't have the reinforcement strip and you have to make it. We use a generous amount of 3M Panel Bond so it squishes out all around the strip which won't allow water/dirt/salt to collect between the tin layers and cause rust out.

Thanks Evan the truck has original fenders but looks like they were repaired years ago and the doubler was missing.Kevin

The original design of that area was just fine for the original purpose of these tractors which kept farmers dry when it rained.
For a truck which we spend thousands of dollars to build, not so much. Tar paper and a thin metal doubler is a horrible idea. I did it anyway on mine.
I had considered not attaching the rear fender to the running board at all and add a fender brace rod from the fender to the frame similar to what was done at the rear end of the fender to keep it from flopping around.
