Hello All, I need some help deciphering a GMC vin number. I checked for databases but can't find the answers.
The vin number is: 15222P8527 Body: PK
Is this a three quarter ton, a one ton, or something else? I know it is indeed a 52, but some parts may not be original. Thank you guys for all the help you give everyone. Mike.
15 is 3/4 ton,2 is the wheel base 125.25,22 is 228 engine,p is Pontiac Michigan plant and the rest is the production number.Check my work imfo came from old gmc trucks
OK Thank you guys! So first of all, it's a serial number, not a vin number. My bad. So I guess it was made near the end of 1951, but first sold in 1952. This information makes a lot more sense, given what I'm looking at on the ground. Thanks a million for the replies! Mike.
According to the page that Frank50 pointed to, it would be a '51 model.
Not that they couldn't have been switched in 70+ years, but what kind of outside door handles does it have, turn down ('51 models and earlier) or push button ('52 models and later)?
And where did you get the "Body PK" from?
'57 GMC 102, Original 347 V8, HydraMatic, 3.08 rear gear, added A/C, disk front brakes, HEI, AFB carb, '98 Honda Black Currant paint. T-boned and totaled 10/12 '52 GMC 152 Stake Bed, Original 228, SM420, added A/C, HEI, disk front brakes, '67 Chev 3.55 rear gear. Gets used as a real truck.
The paperwork I got with the truck said "1952", and body type "PK". The door handles I have are push button, but weren't on the truck, and don't look original anyway. The paperwork said "3/4 ton", and "one ton" in two different places, so I am curious about things. I am certain of the wheelbase, but beyond that... not so much. lol. Mike.
