Worked most of the day trying to line up motor and trans in the frame. Putting LS1 and 4l60E tans in with a TCI frt crossmember that I put on the original frame. Having problems trying to establish a workable height up off the crossmember. Got to have clearence up from the rack and pinion steering but wonder how much??

I'm a poor one to give advice on something I've never done myself.

The link below shows the engine (not an LS1) resting on a block of 2" wood on top of the TCI crossmember.
Beside of it is a picture of the engine mount welded to the frame.
The builder elected to remove the old crossmember rivets to shift the crossmember forward, for better access to the R&P connections, then bolted in place.
The problem with moving the old crossmember forward is that you have to rework the mounting for the original radiator frame that sits on top of this cross member. It's important to do this correctly because the whole front section (fenders, grille, panels etc.) have to line up perfectly with the holes in the radiator frame.

Be aware, too, that LS engine mounts are in a different area than a small block.

Trying to get some advice on exhaust manifolds...stock truck that came with the engine will not go down past the frame. the collector end turns toward the frame...open for suggestions

I got these from Summit for my 5.3 in a ‘70 C10.

They gained me about 2” on each side. Very pleased with my application. Here are some before and afters comparing the lm7 truck manifolds with the LS cast Summit brand.

What do you guys think the old truck would look like with blue halo headlights, should I leave them stock?? can't find much online about what others are using for headlight that look good in the old truck

On the lh side what clearance did you have for the steering shaft down to your rack? Were you able to have just 2 couplers or a 3rd one to move over to clear the manifold?

I used manifolds from a camaro SS with my swap. A little tight but they fit.
