Went out to find the casting # on the newly acquired 235 and couldn’t really find one. Nothing long. Looking on the passenger side toward the rear I only found this:

CON 3 L204

The serial # on the flat boss behind the distributor is: OI95I95F55X. (That’s oh eye 95 eye 95 F 55 X). I guess the first character could be either a “zero” or “oh”??

I would say December 54 for the casting date, thus, for the 55 model year.

OI95I95F55X

OI95I95=engine serial number

F=Manufactured in Flint, MI

55=1955 model year

X= Thriftmaster 235

CON 3 L204

CON 3 = Conveyer #3

L204 = December 20, 1954 manufacture date

Casting number should be on r.h. side of block, close the front above oil pan flange. Just ahead of the pump.

Here are locations of various head/block codes.

The Engine Serial Number also helps, but, it could have been changed over the years by a good mechanic/machinist.

The hard-to-change codes would be casting codes:

head date casting code
block casting code
block date casting code

Here is a "key" for head and block casting codes.

BC and Tim, I found the casting # where you said to look. Every casting # I ever looked for was at the back of the motor. This one was way at the front.

The # appears to be 3835911

Can any additional information be had by looking up this number?

3835911 is a block casting code for:
Block: 3835911 (235 Corvette after 16 Oct 1953)
Block: 3835911 (235 Truck and & Corvette 1954 & 1955)
