Walked around the shop earlier tonight and did some counting. THIRTY FOUR battery chargers for everything from a circular saw to a belt sander. Two 220 extension cords for welders and plasma cutter, ONE 110v extension cord, and two 50' air hoses. If not for tires and air guns the hoses would be extinct. The tool world is changing.
Just a few years ago I had three air compressors in my air systems. A 10 hp compressor threw a rod recentlyand I haven't replaced it. Except for riveting and airing up truck tires, we just don't use much air any more. Most of my pneumatic tools are just collecting dust.
I use all Metabo cordless. I keep several of their 8 ah batteries charged up at all times. I don't think a person can drill enough holes in a day to run a battery down.
Yesterday, I had the fine opportunity to work on my wife's car. Front catalytic converter, front brakes and new struts. The only time a cordless came out, was for the top nuts on the struts. Only because it called for the 3/8" drive, 90 degree Milwaukee impact ratchet. And I started nut removal with a regular ratchet to loosen them up. I was too lazy to remove the wipers, to remove the panel that covered the top of the struts. Otherwise, it was all hand tools and air tools. 1/2" IR impact to be specific. Probably because I don't have a cordless 1/2" impact and I didn't want to lug around the 3/4" cordless impact.
Air tools still have a ton of life in my world, especially die grinders and sanders. Most likely because I wrench full time, for a living.
