there has been threads about trans swaps and what to about shifters. i just finished the latest copy of rod and custom and they featured a shifter that fits the muncie, saginaw and t10 trans. it is from T&F shifter in lebanon, or. 1-541-451-1929 if anyone is interested. it moves the shifter foward 12 inches w/ a 8 inch throw.

Does anyone know if T&F Shifters is still around? I need a shifter for my '54 chevy pickup in which I hope to install a Saginaw 4 speed.
At one time I dought a shifter from Patrick's in Arizona but they're gone I understand.
Anyway, would someone help me find a shifter?

The man who made them was Mark Moran. I understand that he stopped making them a couple of years ago (maybe as long as 4 or 5 years ago).

Commanderay You can find a hurst shifter at the swap meet for aabout 20$ mount it on your muncie,use heim joints make linkage to fit,make a stick or buy it Hurst,black ones are corporate (came on a car) white ones are aftermarket.

WEbOLD For years I made my own shifters,learned to use emergency brake lever from a big truck,squeeze for 1 and 2 3 and 4 don't squeeze seperate lever for reverse.

WebOLD Friends that had beater cars for parts would cut a big hole in floorboard weld a lever on the tranny arms . We learned to shift those almost like a shifter.

I saw one creative dude at a car show that had 2 separate arms attached to the shifter levers on the tranny ending up with 2 shifter handles through the floor
one for !st and reverse and the other for 2nd and 3rd.
I'd imagine it would take some getting used to , but would make a great conversation piece .

Here are some of the previous designs of adapting a side-shifting transmission to become something like a top-shifting one.
The goal was to have it fit, or come close, to the original hole (shift stick opening) in the removable section of the floorboard.

One Stovebolt member said the Patrick design didn't work well. No details on why.

Another idea is not to go through the elaborate design to make the shifter fit the stock hole position but rather make another hole in the removable floorboard cover.
The removable cover can easily be replaced with a new or used one if you decide to go back to the original design later on.
The goal is to move the shift stick to the right and away from your leg.
Also move the shifter body towards the main case so that the bench seat can be moved forward a little more.

1.) Offset shifter (stick holder)
2.) Shifter mounting bracket similar to an original design (close to the main case and tail housing assembly bolts) not the Camaro tail housing mounting position.
3.) Custom made shift rods and shift arms.
4.) Custom made shift stick (to keep knuckles from hitting dash).

buoymaker Have made several shifters saw one where you pushed down for 1 and r let up for2 and3. Made one it was OK . Made others mostly like a Hurst,best thing was heim joint linkage,smooth,short throw no slop !!

Rusty Heaps I used to help friends on clutch linkage,same thing a case of where you just couldn't there from here !! Built bell cranks,pivots,use chain links,heim joints,roller chain,lotta tricks !!
