With knowledge that this topic has been discussed many times, I would like to know if anyone is using 16x8 wheels on stock suspension. I my spare rim that came with my truck looks to be original and is a 16x5. I don't think I want that "roller skate" look. BB Wheels has a cool visualizer. You select your vehicle and the picture of the truck will appear. On the side, select the wheel style and you will see what they look like on your truck. The problem is that they are mostly all 8" wide. I'm not sure they would work. The offsets are mostly zero.

I installed 16 x 6 rims (3.5" offset) They seem plenty wide enough - tread width is about 8 inches.
16 x8 rims will be too wide, I think.

Stock AD wheels were 16x4.5 or 16x4 in the earlier years with 6 hubcap clips. They used either 600-16 or 650-16 tires. I believe the Taskforce wheels were 16x5 and had 3 hubcap clips. At least I have one wheel like that that didn’t match the others on my truck.

I think the rear axle will be okay. The problem may be the front axle with clearance between the tie rod ends and maybe also the drag link. Jack the truck up and take the wheels off. Fix a straightedge to the back plate. Rotate the steering wheel and do some measuring. Get an idea on how much clearance you have then reduce that distance to allow for tire bulging and front axle movement.
The "roller skate" look is actually quite pleasant. If you ever have to arm-strong wide tires with a manual gearbox, for a long time, you will understand. Not so bad when you are "spring chicken" but old timers like me have a thing called "Arthur".

Thanks all for the info. From the photo, the 16x6 wheels look OK. My spare must be the "Taskforce" 16x5 wheel w/3 clips. My hangup is that I'd like to install something just a bit more modern looking (even though overall truck will be original as possible). I'm convinced now that I do not want 16x8. Thanks again.
