The rear axle housing is very slowly weeping gear fluid from the spring pillar block area on the passenger side. I'm going to remove the trans and rear axle housing this Spring to replace the pilot bearing and the okie seal and bushing in the drive shaft. Any suggestions on how to repair the axle housing.

You should be able to weld that to correct the problem, unless the crack is too long, in which case, I'd be looking at replacing the whole axle housing for safety reasons, or at least have a professional welder do the work for you.

The axle housing pivots in a 2 piece pillar block in a bed of grease.

Could be a short plug or something like that!

Rick Isn't there something welded to the axle tube to keep it from moving sideways? If it's covered in grease, how can you tell it's leaking?

The gear lube is leaking from the pillar block and down the ubolts. I have to move the rear axle housing rearward to remove the drive shaft from the transmission. Then I'll know exactly where it is coming from. My hoist lift is on the cold side of the barn, that's why I'm waiting for Spring. I could prop up the axle housing and remove the ubolts and drop the pillar block, but I want to replace the pilot bearing and the okie and bushing in the drive shaft tube.
