The steering box on the truck I'm working on is dry as a bone. I'm sure this is because all the oil leaked out. I seem to remember that this was a common problem, and I also seem to remember that I have seen the filler plug drilled for a grease fitting and the box filled with grease instead of oil. Does anyone have an opinion on this. Good Idea? Terrible Idea?

grease is the solution - been discussed - I use grease and oil both

Use Cornhead grease because it is the consistancy of thick honey so it won't run out easily but it is liquid enough to not "tunnel" around the gears so they are always lubricated.
