Well I have the pistons in hand and boy this engine is real wrong. #3 was in #1 hole and #1 in #3, #2 had top compression ring broke, #5 is a #2 from someplace else, #4 and #6 are shot as you will see from these pics. There was no ridge on the cylinders and no damage done to cylinders or rod bearings. I don't know why not but no damage. All of the push rods are bent- every one of them.

Looks like a complete rebuild is in order. Will have the head and block magnafluxed. #4

Were the plug wires hooked up right? I've never seen anything that bad without broken rods or a bent crank. I would recommend you check the crank for straightness. I would also replace the camshaft and lifters. That much damage to the lifters probably means a flat lobe or two. Just when I thought I'd seen everything...
