I'm doing some research on converting my 51 to power windows and those kits are crazy expensive. I enjoy customizations and such, so I figured that I would ask:

Has anyone here converted the old manual windows into power windows by adding a motor to the original regulator while utilizing the stock look power window switch? Is it even possible?

See attached images for the look of the manual regulator and the stock power switch. The photo with the motor on it is what I'm thinking of the final project, but with using the stock looking switch.

If none of that is possible without too much work and time or dinero, can anyone recommend the best kit to go with that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

Thanks!

LMC has a universal kit that uses the original regulator. I put one on a 63 pickup a few years ago. It worked real good but was a lot of work putting on.

So I purchased some aftermarket universal window regulators and motors from a neighbor and he wanted $100 for four of them. He said, "Just take them and see if you want them. Try them out, do your research or whatever. You can pay me after you figure it out. All I want is $100 for everything in the box. If you don't take them, I won't do anything with them ever, so it's up to you."

Turns out, in the box were two of those switches linked above. So even if I don't use the other pieces, it was a score!

Here's a lower-cost alternative I ran across a few years ago:

I bought one of the low price universal kits that used factory regulators. Took one look at all the fragile plastic parts and threw it in the trash. I took a picture to sell it on ebay but decided I didn't need another enemy. The box is turned wrong to see the name and I don't remember it.

Yeah Evan, I agree that one looks pretty fragile. I don't mine spending $200 + for a simple set, but $500 is not in my budget.

ColbyG Out at the truck stops you'll see a box they mount on the passenger window,so the driver can open/close it. Also might land that at Raney's truck parts in Florida. It just mounts on the shaft then attaches to the door skin.
