For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2019 Posts: 8 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2019 Posts: 8 | Is there a kit to swap a 58-62 truck 235 motor with side mounts into a 1955 with front corner mounts using the '55 motor mounts (bolts, bushings and washers) - not the side mounts. If there Is a kit that adapts an earlier 6 cyl to the 55 front mounts by using the front plate, why could it not be used to swap a 58-62 into a 55? You would have to drill two holes in the bottom flange of the front motor plate to be able to bolt up the kit to the motor plate. I've never seen such a kit but surely someone has thought of this. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2019 Posts: 159 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2019 Posts: 159 | After having done the “easy swap for better sixes “ I should have just drilled the holes in the front plate and run with it. That would have been a better way to go instead of pulling the plates and cams to do the swap. Live and learn. You should be able to use the front mounts. I did this in an off topic ‘46 coupe and had to run an electric pusher fan in front of the radiator because the later 235 is too close to use the original fan, even with the short shaft water pump. I don’t know if your truck would have this clearance issue or not.
I invest my money in precious metals, mostly rust!

On a 55 car, you need the boss castings for the front corner mounts to install in a 55 pass car.

If not, my choices are to either use the side mounts (I've seen those kits) or design my own solution. I haven't gotten deep enough into it yet but it might be possible to fashion a plate that would attach to the bottom of the timing cover and spread out to fit on the 55 moto mounts. I'll have to think about this for a while. I have my 55 engine and when I can find the time I can break it down and mount it on a motor stand and rotate it upside down so I can see what would be required. It would have to clear the oil pan. There is plenty of room between the engine and the crossmember. I have an idea in mind that would use the three holes on the side and the front plate holes and have holes for the 55 mount posts. Don't think I'll solve this overnight. | | |
