hello truck community,

I have introduced myself in the Welcome Forum. Thank you very much for your great reception in this forum.

I have a Chevrolet C60 Firetruck:
Year 1966
366 cu in
VIN: C6336Z115605

I have searched the internet and online stores for days and just can't find anything. I am looking for the following parts to get the truck back on the road.

Drum brake wheel cylinder for rear axle twin tires
there are two per side (top/bottom)
Model Delco Moraine 5467726
1 1/2 inch

It is also difficult to find the master brake cylinder because it has a large diameter:

Master brake cylinder with clutch cylinder
installed part Wagner Lockheed FF 54846
DUAL BORE SIZE 1 3/4" & 1 1/8"
PORT SIZES 1/2 20 1/4 28

Brake booster (sits under cab, driver side).
Model unclear, was missing when vehicle was purchased. Model should be for a heavy duty truck
Check valve
Drum brake shoes with spring and mounting kit, adjuster
Rear axle (complete)

One more question about the brake shoes. Which ones go in there?
Brake drum diameter: 15 in
Brake shoe width: 4 in

Does this mean I need brake shoes 15x4?

I would appreciate any valuable information.

Greetings Brian

Dixon Yes need 15x4 shoes, that stuff would be expensive in USA ,don't know if rock auto can help in germany. I think Jim Carter truck parts could help but shipping would be expensive. On your whole differential if you can land one in your neighborhood would be best.Good luck on your project.that'll be a fun cruiser !!

I have looked through these websites so far, but have found nothing.

Powerbrake https://www.powerbrake-drivetrain.com/master-cylinder-wagner-ff54846-ohk/
Partsgeek https://www.partsgeek.com/

NAPA

Maybe another wheel brake cylinder will fit.

The Delco Moraine is attached with three screws and the holes for the lines sit centrally.
I have found a similar one, but this is only attached with two screws.

Drum brake wheel cylinder
Model Delco Moraine 5467726
1 1/2 inch

The money for the parts is not the problem, is hopefully a one-time thing. The shipping is also unique.
Maybe someone has an insider tip or knows if there is a complete conversion kit.

Another option is to look into resleeving your wheel cylinders if someone does that type of work in Germany.

Dixon On your brake shoes watch for primary/secondary (one lining shorter than the other) don't think your rear ones will be that way ,front shoes may be. Also those rear cylinders can be tough to bleed cause there vertical .

Hy Dixon, welcome, your rear wheel cylinders appear to be Raybestos p/n WC37095 and WC 37096 both are available from RockAuto for $83.79 U.S.D each. I did find a Raybestos p/n for the master cylinder but there was no parts found at RockAuto, I will keep working on the rest of your list. Does your engine have a compressor mounted on it?

I think I found the master cylinder in Canada. Kind of pricey, could not find elsewhere. Click NOT AVAILABLE

Brian, I believe you posted the number for the wheel cylinder 5467726 in error, should be 5487726.

Hello all together,

you are great, thank you very much for your help.
Yes, you are right. The number of the wheel brake cylinder could also be 5487726. It is very difficult to read it.
I think the MC should fit. At least he has the same numbers :-) Suuupper

There is no compressor mounted on my engine.

I found a company in the USA that would repair all the parts for me. Then with lifetime warranty.
4x wheel brake cylinder (total $500)
1x master cylinder, (total $300)
4x brake shoes (unclear)

Plus shipping of course.
Does anyone know this company?

I received an email from the Canadian vendor. The master cylinder is not available. Looks like the rebuild is the correct approach.

White Post looks like the right place. Prices are below the sky.

I've been to White Post, neat place to visit. They have been in the antique car restoration business for a long long time. I think the current owner is the forth generation.

Word of advice; as you rebuild the rear brakes and go to bleed, lift the rear of the truck until the upper wheel cylinder bleeder is in the 12:00 position. As it sits normally, the inner cup of the upper wheel cylinder will sit higher than the bleed screw and you wont get all the air out. Also there is a leading and trailing shoe so ensure the shoes are properly installed.

Did you manage to track down a booster yet?

Hello dear forum members,

As promised, I'll get back to you and give you a status update on my brake system parts.
Master Brake Cylinder. Wheel Brake Cylinder, Brake Shoes and Adjuster Kit I sent to White Post Restoration for rebuild/overhaul.

The Wheel Brake Cylinder raceways/bores were all rusted and the pistons were stuck.
Now all the parts are back.

What can I say... The result is terrific. The parts look like new and make a great impression.
When I have everything reinstalled, there is a new state of affairs on the tightness 😊
It was not cheap, but with a restoration of such a large truck, the price is no longer important.

But now I need your help again.

The most important part is still missing.
When I bought the Chevy C60, year 1966, unfortunately there was no brake booster mounted.
I know this sits on the driver's side below the cab.
Can you guys please tell me which is the correct brake booster for my C60?

I have seen that there are brake systems with a vacuum reservoir.
Do I really need it?
Or is it enough classic:
Master Brake Cylinder via a line (Hydraulic)) to the Brake Booster (vacuum assisted) and from there (single circuit) via the distributor to the front and rear axle?

I look forward to your answers and a model designation of the Brake Booster and a matching check valve.

Greetings Brian

Good luck finding a booster if you don't already have one. Best I've been able to do is find rebuilders or kits to do it yourself.

My truck uses a Bendix Hydrovac 374000 or Midland C462. They are listed all over the internet, but not stocked.

Hy Dixon, the GM part number is 3965377, Bendix part number 2508827, Midland-Grau rebuilt part number RV2512065X, I did find a price at Find it Parts $269.00 plus $100.00 core. I hope that might help you find one in Germany or order one from the U.S.

thank you very much for your answers.
are the brake booter you mentioned also suitable for a very heavy C60 Fire Truck? The exact weight I unfortunately do not know but the structure is already heavy. Heavy rear axle with leaf springs. Water will not come in the water tank in the future:-)

Are your brake systems also built like this?
From the Master Brake Cylinder hydraulically to the Hydrovac (with vacuum assistance), then to the distributor to the front and rear axle?

I have seen models/drawings on the internet with vacuum reservoir .
Do you guys have a vacuum reservoir with an additional line to the hydrovac?
What was it installed for on some models?

Maybe someone could also tell me the correct check valve.

Thank you.

My truck also has the Bendix 374000 and did not have a reservoir from the factory. The plumbing is as you have stated, master cylinder to Hydrovac to tee to wheels.

Hy Dixon, the numbers I provided are for the brake booster specified for your truck in the GM parts book. I'm sure you must have a heavy duty truck parts place in Germany, you should be able to purchase a vacuum check valve with the correct pipe thread through them, hope that helps.

The truck remains as it is.
Technically, it will be completely renewed.

Fuel complete, air, vacuum, electrical complete, brakes complete, lighting system completely new, engine partly, tires new.
The interior including the cockpit is currently being rebuilt.
Windows are partly renewed and all seals.

This will be an event truck. I still have a Chevy C10 Pickup, 1970, Stepside. It's getting a frame off restoration from me right now.

You can rent these vehicles including accessories (seating, music system, lighting system) for events of all kinds.
The Fire Truck will be used for taps (right side) and cocktails etc (left side), lights and music will be on top of the truck.
The loading area of the pickup is used all around the counter.

Bendix 374000
Midland C462

Are these the two models I can use for my Chevy C60?
They fit and have appropriate power to slow the truck down?

Thank you wave

Bendix part number 2508827 at FindItParts.

Is this a complete brake booster with vacuum housing and cylinder.
Unfortunately I can not find any pictures, there are none on the homepage.

Stupid question:

What does +$100.00 core deposit mean?

It's the cost of your rebuildable worn out part. If you return your part, you get your deposit back.

Those parts are correct for a 1955 1 1/2 ton with GVWR of 14000 lbs. I can't confirm if they are the same for yours, but you can atleast compare them.

Dixon Not a stupid question---If you don't have a non-operating part to trade-in (that the supplier can re-build to sell) then you must pay a core deposit. Be sure if you send in a core that it is complete and re-buildable.

I have unfortunately no parts that I can send in. I need the brake booster and accessories completely new.

I just found the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) in the documentation.

19500 lbs.

The weight includes the amount of water in the water tank to extinguish. That is 5000 lbs.

We won't be using the water tank in the future though, so I'm coming up with a total weight of 145000 lbs, assuming our Technical Inspection Authority plays ball with the approval.

With this weight, the Bendix 2508827 could actually fit.

I'd be surprised to see your truck weigh 14,400 pounds...I'm guessing it's more like 13,000 pounds the way it sits now. When fully loaded to fight fires there would have been 1,000 + pounds of hose and equipment...regardless, you want the Booster to be able to handle the 19.500 rating.

Hello all,

I promised to show you pictures of the brake parts after restoration by White Post Restoration.
The parts look like new, incredible.

All the accessories like adjuster kit and springs etc are brand new.
The brake pad carrier was completely rusted and looked like crap.

And now...top condition. Looking forward to putting it together. yahoo

Try NAPA.com for the wheel cylinders and master cylinder, the hydrovac can possibly be replaced with a newer model. If you can find a old one make sure you install a air filter for the intake. Brake shoes will have to be relined. Brake springs and such might be hard to find other than NOS or used. I'll check master parts catalog for brake component compatibility. Keep checking eBay, I've gotten a lot of hard to find part there.

Hello to all,

I have already asked you for a suitable Brake Booster.
There are actually no more to get. Really difficult.
It is the only part that is missing.

On the internet I find this Brake Booster more often.

https://www.thewrenchmonkey.ca/products/auto-parts/a1-cardone/518009/

According to the seller, they should also fit.
Is that really the case?

Can I use this Brake Booster for my Chevy C60, year 1965/66, with approx. 15.000 lbs?
Thank you guys.

Greetings Brian
