For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2021 Posts: 19 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2021 Posts: 19 | I want to verify what i have read on several post before i spent money. i have a 51 3600 with stock rear end 8 lug. From what i have read i can do a direct swap rear end with a 67-72 C20 rear end. Is that correct? Is the diff off set like my original? also do i have to make any adjustment to drive shaft? Thanks

You can take the center section (often called a 3rd member) from the 72 on back & put it in the housing. The 67-72 C20 with v-8 & auto trans has 4:11 gear ratios. It is very desirable as it gives a better highway ratio. It is pretty rare though. George
This belongs in the driveline section.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. There's a good bit of them out there. I've found three in the last few years just paying attention to what's being sold in the yards and on marketplace. It's an easy procedure. You unbolt the axle shafts and slide them out about 6". Unbolt your driveshaft from the third member. Then unbolt and remove the third member. That third member is pretty heavy though.
Liquidated my projects Now looking for a decent '47-'55.1 3100, 3600, or 3800

It's that heavy. 1951 3800 1-ton"Earning its keep from the get-go"In the DITY Gallery1962 261 (w/cam, Fenton headers, 2 carbs, MSD ign.), SM420 & Brown-Lipe 6231A 3spd aux. trans, stock axles & brakes.
