My truck is missing the original horn. I'm not one of those people that requires everything to be stock, so I'm trying to come up with something different, but not obnoxious.

We have a friend of a neighbor that is running what sounds like an original train engine horn, and it is, by far, way too loud. I don't know how he doesn't get a ticket. I was previously affiliated with law enforcement, and had I had the chance, he'd be the proud recipient of a citation right about now.

I also do not want the "la cucaracha" horn, so you can keep that suggestion to yourself smile

Any other thoughts?

My truck came with an ah-oog-ah horn. I put on a regular horn from the parts store, but plan to install the ah-oog-ah horn near the back bumper as to make it sound like the truck is farting ah-oog-ah's...lol...

And, I agree, those train horns are way too loud to be on a street-driven-vehicle. I see so many violations each day, and I am not a LEO or retired LEO.

I have the original horn on my ‘62 C-10 but I also have a 2 pole switch on the dash that I can switch to an Ah-ooh-ga horn mounted next to the original for cruises and parades.

When the guy hits that horn, it sounds like Amtrak is about to come through our house. >:[

The single o.e. horn on my '60 is loud enough to wake the dead, that and the sound if not what folks are use to hearing these days.

I always thought I'd like to use the Hadley ambassador air horns that you hear in the old movie "The Car", but after seeing the compressor that needs to be hooked up and all of that, I have decided against it.

That's how I plan to have mine, just ah-oog-ah-ing from the back of the truck.

I have a semi-truck air horn set I picked up at an auction for $5 mounted in the engine compartment. The operating valve is connected to the throttle knob. I also had a spare aircraft oxygen tank I mounted under the bed and fill it occasionally with air from the shop.

For one wanting to be different we have used a "Bermuda Bell". No electronics involved, mounts on under side of floor with a plunger you step on.

Another option is a "pair" of older Cadillac horns. They are stamped with the musical note on the case. You need 2 different notes for best sound.

FWIW the stock horns on my 13 Charger are LOUD and should be readily available. The car is insulated enough that they're not overly loud inside the car. I was shocked at how loud they are when I heard them outside the car.

These are six volt horns that were disconnected when a previous owner converted to 12 volt. I recently put these in series to use with the 12 volt system and they work nicely, being a high and low pair. They do get people’s attention. Thought viewers might enjoy the promotional literature that I came across. Trumpet horns are cut off by the bad photographer.

I have a horn from a chevy Trailblazer on my truck. Went to the junkyard, found a trailblazer the horn is not hard to get to, consists of two horns on one bracket. One 10mm. bolt and a snip of the wire and off you go. Why a Trailblazer you ask? A neighbor past one day and blew the horn, That was pretty loud, think I'm gonna get one of those. So I did. It bolted in place of the horn that was on the truck before.
