I will be getting a set of wheels and tires for my '50 4400. I have a choice of 19 1/2", 6 inch wide wheels or 19 1/2", 7 1/2 inch wide wheels. These are coming off of motor homes. (10 lug wheels).
Which would be the best width to get and what size tire would be best for steering/ride?
Based on previous info read on the 'bolt these wheels should work. There is a slight difference in diameter of the lug bolt holes (new wheels slightly bigger).
It has dually's on back.

Probably the widers rims are a better choice, but make sure the rim and tire clears the front tie rod ends.
The 19.5's are around 4 inches shorter in diameter than the original tires, that may or may not look good.

Tony, Is wheel offset a concern? I swapped rims on my 4400 (rear only), but made sure they didn't protrude beyond the flatbed side rails.

Offset could be a problem,or not.I have no experience with this swap on my own truck,. I saw a 54 1-1/2 ton with 19.5 wheels,the smaller diameter tires looked a little out of place, and probably more revs per mile too.Another guy may think it looks fine,so.........

The rear tires aren't my main concern. I was worried about getting the right size tires as not to hit the tie rods when mounted. I don't want to get them too wide.
I currently do not have a bed on "Lazarus". I plan on mounting a sleeper behind the cab with a short flat bed behind that. I will have to make the flat bed.
Just trying to make a fun truck to drive as comfortable as possible.
What kind of tires did you put on the back of yours?

For your intended purpose, cruiser/camper, I think the tires/rims you have chosen will look and perform well...if they fit. I installed a 77 Ford two-speed rearend in my truck.
I mounted 8.25-20's on rims that matched the stock ten bolt ones in front.
My recollection is that most motorhomes have front rims with quite a healthy offset.
I am sure there are aftermarket rims available with different offsets.

I had the 19.5's 8R width on my 54 2-ton. The wheels and tires aren't that much smaller, maybe 1-1/2" diameter if you hold them up to each other. Tony can go jump for "size" problem! The ride was so much nicer, and my speedo was off maybe some, but not enough to worry, like you can go fast in these things anyway! HA! I'm not sure what width I had really. Only 8" tires, off MH, kinda narrow, but hauled all I could put in it for gravel, about 4 to 5 tons or yards of limestone. It was enough for the truck and brakes to haul! Tires hardly squatted. You used to be able to see my truck in the Gallary here on this site, IF that hasn't changed. G. L. Perry's 54 2-ton.

Well...I went and got a pair of the 19.5" X 7.5" wheels just to make sure they would work. They worked fine on the front but wouldn't fit the back. They were tapered too much to fit over the drum and I think that if they did fit the drum that they would have been up against and rubbing the springs. I'll have to get the 6" wide rims and try them. :mad:
