Hi, interested to see any pics of how a dump bed works on a 3600. Have a line on a local bed off a later 1 ton and curious to see what would be needed to make it work. Thanks!
Is the bed off the 1-ton already a hoist/lift bed? Hydraulic with a PTO-driven pump and cylinder? (if so, does your truck have an SM420 transmission or the 3-speed?) Or a newer electric system? And how much "later" is the 1-ton? Is the 1-ton a dually? If the frames are same width, etc, you might be able to just remove from the one-ton and bolt to the 3/4-ton. A tape measure is your best friend here.
You may already know this ... but ... Just be aware that it will be really, REALLY easy to dangerously overload your 3/4-ton with that bed. The hoist mechanism, if original to the 1-ton, is going to add weight. The bed will add more weight. And then whatever is left over (subtracted from your truck's rated Max Gross Weight) will be available to you for payload ... which won't be a lot. So do the math and see if it is even going to be worth it.

What John said! I'll see if I can get some pictures of our 57 one ton Dually with the dump bed today. Rain is moving in so we'll see what happens.

Thanks John. The donor frame sits between the rails and won't work with the curve of the 3/4 ton frame. I just wanted to see some examples of how it should be assembled on a 3600. I do have the SM420 and am about to pull it to go through it, so I thought it might be a timely upgrade. Although I do occasionally use the truck to haul stuff, I'm not intending on using it for dumping large loads, it would be more for show at events.
Any one with good pics of what this setup should look like? Thanks!
Got a few pictures today before the rain. The 57 one ton dump and the 48 3/4 ton flatbed. The one ton has flat frame rails and the 3/4 ton has curved frame rails. They were built this way for a reason.

Thanks Don - I see they 'flattened' out the hump in the rails, but I don't see any lift installed in it. Are you suggesting that you 'flatten' then mount lift the same as 1 ton?
No Goach. The 48 3/4 ton does not have a hoist on it. Just showing you the difference between a one ton and a 3/4 ton frame. John has a one ton single wheel 49. No hoist. Maybe he can help with your decision. But, a 3/4 ton single tire will be over loaded with just the hoist and steel bed alone. Frame is not designed to carry that weight.
