Does anyone know what’s going on with these holes in my hood? Did someone try to fill them in with bondo? And why does the trim piece stop short? Do I need to remove the remaining plates embedded in the hood or are those like reinforcements that need to stay? Unfortunately everything is gone. Thank you

Yes, those are holes for mounting the hood emblem, and the center trim does stop above the emblem (the emblem may lap over it on the top - don't recall for sure.) The holes on the rear are also for hood emblems, and the plate also serves as a reinforcement for the hood hinges. Definitely don't remove those.

These photos show before and after of my hood. The depression along the center above the emblem is why I thought the center trim stopped short of the front of the hood.

There are four studs on the front hood emblem so there were four holes originally. It looks like someone has already welded two of them closed.

Thank you. It was just bondo, not sure why my sandblasting man did hit those. Any idea why the trim piece stops short like that? Every picture I’ve seen the trim extends under the front emblem.

You are correct on the center trim piece. It should extend to the bottom of the hood and the emblem mounts over it. I can only guess that a previous owner did some customization, its also remotely possible that they used a hood center strip off of a 50's Chevy passenger car? Luckily the correct hood center strip is readily available at several of the reproduction parts suppliers as is the hood emblem.
