Looking for a reputable restoration shop in Michigan (southeast). I have a 1950 GMC 100 truck that runs (smokes) and drives. I've owned this for 27 years and just can't find time to work on it and would like to enjoy it. Looking for a shop that can go through the whole thing from to back and top to bottom. Would like to make a nice looking reliable weekend driver.

Any leads or suggestions would be appreciated.

Matthew W

Sir, You should call Hagerty whom restored a 1950 Chevrolet Advance Design Pick-up. You can see it on you tube by searching Hagerty and the pick-up restoration. They did it in MI and at least they would know reputable shops in your state. Thanks Matthew. V/r, Nick

Thanks you so much for the response. The gentleman that use to love working on my trucks passed away and now I'm trying to find someone to get this one in order. Not looking for a Barrett Jackson truck just something presentable and enjoyable to drive.

Good luck! I too was looking for a shop to do some extensive work to my truck, but not show quality. There are a few restoration shops in my area that do show quality work. I found an auto body shop to take on my project. They didn’t have the experience outside of body work, and charged shop rates to figure out how to get it done. You might be able to find a shop that can take on your project, or you might be better off going to several shops that specialize. Take it to one place to fix the smoking engine, another place to replace glass, etc.
There are a lot of custom shops listed in your area. You could check some out and maybe find one that is on the same page as you are with the work to be done. Here are a link that my search yielded:

Thanks Walter. The dream was to do it myself and take my time. But after 27 years of collecting barn dust and 2 other AD truck purchases its time to find someone who can knock it out for me.

Hey MFW, I moved to the Chelsea area from Ann Arbor about 10 years ago, A body shop in Chelsea is known for high quality - Roberts paint and body. Another shop seems to have high marks is Kittley's automotive in Stockbridge. Then also I have seen a shop between Jackson and Chelsea that focused on restoration but I can't recall the name, I think they are on old US 12, maybe a Grass lake address.

Yup, I've seen some of the stuff they work on outside in the parking area. Way back when I was in high school that building housed an auto parts store, then I think Napa moved in, it's been auto related for as long as I can remember. Napa is now just around the corner
