I'm fully aware of the the old adage "if one keeps trying over and over again and one gets the same results, your stupid" or something like that. I just hate to go back into a B carb on my 54-235. I took extra care and it's so pretty. So many of you have said I have a accelerator problem. It is still running rich and soot's up a new set of AC-R45's in about 20 minutes. The engine has 28'000 miles on it with great compression. The carb does not leak or shoot out fuel when running. I can't get it to idle, runs fine at 900 + rpm but with black exhaust. I'm going to order some of Bob G's capacitors and thinking of running AC-46 plugs for about 200 miles. You would expect more from an educated engine nut but alas I'm letting my education hold me back. I mean I started working with my dad and older brother with greasy engines when I was 6. Too stubborn. ed

Are you sure the vacuum port on the bottom of the carburetor is not being blocked by the base gasket?

Or, if at first you don't succeed try, try again

Your power circuit is on line.

For a temporary test, try blocking the power piston into the lean(up) position. There's a few ways to accomplish that without doing any permanent modifications. If the plug fouling stops, then find the vacuum loss or other reason the plunger is staying down all the time. Plug fouling that bad can't be corrected with hotter plugs.

What you are describing is what happens when a hole appears in the accelerator pump diaphragm on a Carter YF2100 (I know, nothing like looking at an apple to find out what's wrong with an orange).
I am not familiar enough with the Model B to know if a faulty accelerator pump circuit will also cause your issue.

It’s almost always the power valve system on a “B” that is the problem.

There is a channel that goes across the top of the airhorn on a model B carb. It has a small plug in one end that sometimes gets blown out when you do an o-haul. If that plug is missing you will get these symtoms.
