When I purchased my truck 27 years ago the previous owner had installed a modern style radio and in order to make it fit he enlarged the hole for the on/off switch. Returning the truck to original required removing the radio however the delete plate was no longer with the truck. Even back then delete plates were rare. One day I spotted an AD GMC at an old garage and stopped to check for a plate only to find it had a radio in it. The owner agreed to sell the radio for $20 if I would remove it. After removal he asked if I got the part under the dash. The radio was mounted to the steering column underneath the dash with 2 J bolts and used 2 flex cables up to the control head mounted on the dash. May be one of the earliest remote controlled radios as it had a penciled date of 11-4-1947 on it. It was missing one of the covers but due to its location under the dash and away from sunlight it was in very good condition. Hooking it up on the bench it did play but at a very low volume. What is most important is the control head fit perfectly in the dash and completely hid the enlarged volume control hole. The glass plate was missing and replaced with a glass from a later model radio, notice the CD symbol. There is no name on the radio only some stamped numbers.
