Theres a yard just down from my house that I pass just about every time I go to town.. lots of old "junk" sitting around, but what always caught my eye was this cool old '38 chevy boom truck with dual rear axles.

I was on my way to Walmart to get an air conditoner when glancing over I saw a '46 Chevy big bolt and a guy with a torch in the yard.. so I pulled in.. mainly because i'm looking for a seat for my '46.

I asked the guy about it, and he said it belonged to a friend of his. When I asked him if it was for sale, he replied, "Well he's planning on selling it for scrap next time he gets a chance to pull it out of here."

"Whats it worth for scrap?" I asked him.

"Well.. $65.. but they'll dock him because the grain bed is full of tires, not to mention the wood on the grain bed.. so.. not much."

No broken glass.. a seat in what can only be described as "mint" condition (the plastic is still on it) steering wheel still is in great shape, and still has the horn in the center of it (mine had been removed and transplanted to the top of the steering column) and oh yea.. it's got a PTO and a hydrolic side dump!

Motor is locked up tighter than a drum.. but if I can bag it for $100 it would be a gold mine of parts to bring my '46 up to speed.

So I get the owners name, but he's not listed in the phone book.. so I call the only other listing in the book with the same last name.

It isn't him, and they say his number is unlisted and they won't give it out.. but they know how to get ahold of him, and will pass on a message.

So now the waiting game begins.. it's only been about 14 hours since I left my contact information for them to pass on.. but it seems like it's been DAYS!

Good luck. Sounds like a great find if you have a place to get rid of the tires. He'll probably be happy to getr $100 from what it sounds like.

I've got a few deep holes here on my 53 acres that I call "gullys" but most folks call "blowouts".. they're deep, and already have several cars and trucks and hot water heaters and god only knows what in them, and I plan on filling them up sometime this summer.. I imagine 30 or 40 extra tires in the hole won't be that big a deal.

Don't bury them...stack them up at the corner stop sign when know one is looking and let the State pick them up for recycling...your tax dollars at work!

I would be interested in the steering wheel possibly. Wasn't clear if you were saying that you will need the wheel. Send me an e-mail if you hear something. [email protected]
