All, I have had no issues with my drive train. Drove my truck to town a month ago and brought it home and parked it under the lean to. Got in it this past Saturday and can't get it in gear? It just grinds. Its like the pressure plate is gone, no warning or anything. Has this happened to anyone else. I have a 54 3/4 ton dually with a 4 speed manual transmission. I've laid under the truck and had my son push in the clutch pedal without the truck running of course and all the linkage is working. I can see the throw out bearing move back into the pressure plate area. I don't necessarily mind dropping the transmission but I'm just wondering what else it could be? Are there synchronizers that could have went out in the transmission or is it just a simple clutch issue? Any suggestions or story's of how you may have fixed yours would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Sometimes the clutch will stick to the flywheel with light rust
Can you shift it into gear with the engine off?
If so
Put it in gear
Press clutch in
Try to start it
It usually breaks free because it can’t hold enough to move the truck
But your problem maybe different but easy to try the simple things before taking stuff apart

Warning the truck might also start and you will be driving unexpectedly
So pick an appropriate surrounding and plan for that smile

My 55 2 ton does the same thing from time to time. starting it in gear normally breaks it free. (might need to warm the engine up in neutral first so it starts easy!)

With the dust cover removed from the bell housing, have someone push the clutch pedal down fully (engine off) and slip a putty knife between the clutch disc and the flywheel. If that doesn't work, get the truck pointed down a straight road, start the engine with the trans in 1st. gear, push the clutch pedal down, and nail the brakes. One of these procedures will unstick the disc from the flywheel.

Even though I'm just about all Chevy/GM, I do have a Ford Wrecker that I use as a yard truck (It was too good a deal to pass up, lol). If I let it sit too long the Clutch will stick. And it really sticks. I have to crawl under and break it loose as Jerry has described above. What I end up doing is put a wooden stick from the Clutch Pedal to the Seat to prevent it from happening.

By the way, anyone who wants to trade for a Chevy Wrecker, just let me know, lol.

Thank you very much. That makes sense. I will check this out over the weekend. This solution will be a lot better than dropping the transmission for sure. BTW is the transmission held on with 4 bolts, 2 on each side and that's it or are there some across the top? I'll let you know what I find. Much appreciated gentlemen!

putty knife did the trick! clutch disc was stuck to the fly wheel.
