I have a 1940 KD (3/4 ton long bed) pick-up. I have been been keeping an eye out at junk-yards, swap meets, and online for REAR bumper brackets to fit my truck for more than several years. I have also yet to see any factory brackets on running trucks or even useful information online or otherwise. The master parts list which is usually a great help,
seems to indicate that '37 to '42 will interchange (my book ends at '42, may fit up to '46?) I see one supplier shows a set they claim fits 1/2 and 3/4 ton- maybe the bumper bars flip side to side? The 1/2 ton frame is 45.5" wide at the rear, the 3/4 ton frame is only 36" wide. So, here I am, hoping someone here has the straight information, photos? I'm thinking I may just need to make my own, easy enough to do if I had a pattern. I would like to make them as original if I do make my own.
Thanks for any help, Doug.
PS, I hope this wasn't already cover here and I didn't find it.

Doug,
You did not say if you wanted front or rear or both.
Here are some photos of 1946 bumper brackets.
They are the same for 42-46 .
At least you will know what you are looking for.
Try an ad in parts wanted.

Harold, thanks for the pics, I can't believe I left out that I'm looking for the rear brackets. I edited my post.

Doug I was in the same position with my 46 3/4 ton truck and ended up using the same brackets used on the front. I had to heat and bend the brackets slightly and they worked fine.

msmall, I had saved a pair of "Advance Design" era rear brackets from another project, thinking I would tweak them to work, as you did. I'm not doing a "nut & bolt restoration" on this truck, but I'm trying to keep it looking as original as possible. Between pictures posted on this site, further study of the parts book, and more searching of supplier catalogs, I know what they look like now. One supplier sells a set that I believe is correct, but with shipping they will cost me $200.+, this 'ol Scotsman is too cheap for that. Not a hard project to build these. If I could get my hands on real pair of the right brackets in good shape, I could make a pattern, and be done in no time. If not I can come real close, just need a good bumper to build them to, always something!

The brackets in the photo below are from an e-bay listing, look to be a nice set (I hope I'm not stepping over the line posting this pic- Mod?). I think these are 1/2 ton, I believe that for the 3/4 ton the frame brackets would need to mount to the bumper irons about 4.5" closer to the center of the truck. If anyone reading this has better information than my conjectures, I'd love to hear (or better yet, see some pictures).
Thanks, Doug.
