Hi guys,
I am looking for a seat with some spring in it or 'give' yet great for longer trips mostly highway and backroad that wont torque my back and neck out of joint from being too hard. Some ideas of the look I like I will attach in the pics.. In the '38, I have about 45" width max and 22" deep if that helps. I really like the bench look but in a bit fancier than what it came with.. I could always change the seat covers but looking for something I might find in junk yard and change out the seat covers.. Any ideas on what car or truck seats might work??

check out third row seats from a suv or minivan. my local pull 'n save charged $50 for a nice 60/40 split that I needed in my '37 for the gas bung, and Leather because it was out of a higher end unit. crawl in and sit, see if it feels decent. I'm going to have to tweek the rails or I will hit the roof. Take your tape measure. if you've moved your gas tank you have more options. I've heard the older s-10 seats fit but with that age you'll be visiting an upholstry shop.

Thanks Larry, yes my gas tank has been moved. The pic on the left is a '70 monte carlo.. looks like a super comfortable seat. The IDEAL seat should recline to move you one way or another better inline with steering wheel.. The majority of 3rd rows are way too hard for the '38 in my o, from what I have looked at unfortunately. :/

Measure carefully for width! The early Trucks were quite a bit narrower than the ADs and newer. I would think any seat from a early ‘70s import truck including the Chevy LUV should be close and adaptable.

Thanks martin. I did. If anyone has a 37/38 seat/frame let me know. I guess there are 1000 different ways to accomplish this. I could just go original, redo the springs and then foam the heck out of it.

I have a 3rd row seat from a minivan. I covered it with a seatcover from Jim Carter.

I am not sure if I asked this Wayne, How is that driving down the road and on bumps?

I don't think any seat will really soften the ride of a 1.5 ton truck.

I have discovered that my 1 ton rides much better with a load in the bed that makes the springs work.

Well, if I put some slate in there and sat on that, I am sure it would ride harder than a cushion. In other words, I am just trying to ease it a little. Dunno if springs are better than modern cushions. Mainly roads, not on farm I mean. I do like the look of the minivan seat you have there, in terms of originality!

not a lot of room in there for a very thick back of seat unless you're my wifes size and same for the bottom cushion unless you've removed the gas tank mount. remember though the '37 original seat bottom is split for the gas filler and wouldn't be necessary for your truck. 38-39 springs would be better. not sure about 40-46, did the cab get wider? still say 3rd row "luxury" suv or minivan is the best. Air rides would. But you'll need to have the cab space and air supply.

So I think I found a black 3rd row seat from a denali. Have any of y'all dyed seats to a color you prefer?

How about seat covers to make that chevy 3rd row (specifically yukon ) seat look old or more authentic? maybe I will have to see if the Jim Carter fits it.. oops look like no.

Finding a '37 split seat will be a challenge. I spent 4 months, a trip to the ER with broken ribs, then a 1200 mile round trip to get mine.
