For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Feb 2005 Posts: 4 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Feb 2005 Posts: 4 | I just bought my first stovebolt, a 1954 6400 with a flat bed dump with 80,000 original miles. I am the second owner. It runs great and looks good, but I plan on beginning a frame off restoration soon and need to know factory paint schemes. Mine appears to have been green at some point. Any help on determining the factory correct paint (or any other items) would be appreciated. I am a beginner with these type of trucks and want to learn more. Thanks for the great page for stovebolt lovers. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 364 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 364 | A guess would be "Juniper Green". I think that was the green used in '54.

Juniper Green was the standard color, but there were 11 other colors available as options. Any of them would be "factory correct", but the green you see on yours is probably the original. The big bolt bodies were monotone (two tone was only available on the 3100-3800 series), but there may have been some striping schemes.
The grill outer bars are body color, while the grill inner bars are Thistle Gray, unless the body color is Commercial Red or Pure White. Front bumper is Anvil Gray. I think the wheels were Anvil Gray also, but I'm not positive about that. The word "Chevrolet" on the grill is lettered in Waldorf White. I'm not sure if the running boards were body color or not.
There have been questions in other threads about interior paint colors, but there seems to be some confusion here and I'm not sure anybody has a definitive answer on that.

Congratulations on becoming the owner of a fine Chevy, and the fact that it is a Big Bolt, makes it better.
I see you've already got some answer to your question on paint. Although the Big Bolt corner of the garage is a great place to find out about your truck, you may want to post a question about the paint in the Paint Shop. There are fellers in there who wouldn't be caught dead hangin' around Big Bolts.
Also, check out the Swaps and the Stovebolt Store. More good ways to find whatever you might need and to show off your affection for the Chevy truck mystique.
The Greasy Spoon and the General Truck Talk are a smogasboard of information and chatter. Just remember that Stovebolters don't SHOUT or use bad language, 'cause some bring their young'uns in the garage.
Of course, there is one word (well, maybe two or three) that are just never heard around here -- One four-letter word starts with F and ends with D. The other two, I forget.
Welcome, again. Enjoy this place.
Drivin' down a 2 lane country road in a stovebolt.....cowboy, it don't get no better than this!
