I just bought a 1973 C65. Tandem axle with hydraulic brakes. Anyhow I am pretty sure I'm going to be looking at new wheel cylinders. I cannot find any parts info online or a list of parts anywhere for part numbers. I don't have it apart yet but I sure wish I could start finding some part numbers so I can look around for what is available and prices on parts. I understand this might be a little later model that what is typically discussed here but I know there is a lot of knowledge around here on these trucks. I have a service manual on the way. I sure appreciate any info Thanks.

Hy Case_man, we will need more information if we are to help you with part numbers. There are three different front axle weight capacities and two different widths of rear brake shoes. If you clarify that information we can probably help you, good luck. Happy Independence Day!

Thanks for the response 3B. I will be getting into this project as soon as I can. I'll get the specs and post back. It's a grain truck and that is what it will still be used for. I am going to pull the bed off of it so I can paint the frame and also get a better view of everything. Thanks again!

What is the problem with the existing wheel cylinders? Are they leaking, or maybe the pistons are corroded? If the hard parts of the cylinders are in reasonably good shape, rebuilding the cylinders you've got would be the obvious solution. NAPA or some other professional-grade parts vendor will have the rubber cups you need, and possibly dust boots, etc. Of course, actually rebuilding things like wheel cylinders is probably a thing of the past in today's throwaway world!

You're good, the owners of this site recently raised the bar to 1987 (or something close to that).

Would like to see a picture of your truck! pix

I sure appreciate the help guys. It has a 366 and I believe a Clark 282V5 speed. I have wanted one of these for a long time as I have wanted a bigger truck. I also have a 65 C60 that I have done a lot of mechanical work on. I put an SM465 in it and a new Chelsea 442 PTO spring before last. Anyhow this C65 looks like will be a big project. I don't need it until next spring so hopefully I can get these things repaired in time. The engine won't idle it dies if the excel is let off. It runs rough but the guy I bought it from drove it around 200 miles to me. I know a lot of guys put Edelbrock carbs on these so I went ahead and ordered a 1405 with manual choke. I will also replace the plugs, wires, cap, points and all that and see if that helps. Yes there are some leaks at the wheels. That would be great if I could rebuild the cylinders. There is a Napa that I go to often that is has always sold parts for older machines and vehicles along with farm and oil field equipment. Here are some pics.

Be careful about swapping to a carb that doesn't include a governor- - - -low gears and heavy loads are an over-rev situation just waiting to happen. A tall block 427 truck engine would be virtually a drop-in swap, once the 366 gets a little tired. Are those twin screw rear ends, or a 2-speed drive axle with a tag behind it?

Yes I sure understand on the lack of a governor. I might hook up a tach. It has a tag and two speed drive axle. I sure hope this engine will keep going a while but yes at least there are options on replacement engines. I sure don't feel up to an engine overhaul right now with so much going on.

Looks like the Tag has 22.5 tubeless tires, you can keep an eye out for 22.5 Dayton's and convert the entire truck over...all you do is swap the rims, they bolt right to your existing hubs.

Looks like there plenty of life left in this truck! Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Don't forget to ask your engine questions in the Engine Shop section and brakes in the Driveline section , it keeps the moderators happy eeeek

That is good to know on the rims and tires. Yes it's a straight truck and I don't mind working it over to get it back in shape. These are not real easy to find it seems. And I will post the questions in the specific forums thanks for brining that to my attention.

I assume the original carburetor is the Holley with the governor, like others have said, you'd be wise to stay with it and it's easy to rebuild, parts for it are readily available. I was able to rebuild all of the brake cylinders in my 1957 so I think you should have good luck getting kits for your's.

A tachometer cannot react to a momentary over-rev situation and protect the engine like a governor is designed to do. If you insist on eliminating a safety feature the engineers who designed the truck thought was necessary, start tucking away some money to replace the blown engine that's bound to happen sooner or later- - - - -probably sooner.
